The Accountant 2
images show Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal carrying out a dangerous mission, in addition to teasing several returning characters. Released in 2016, the first Accountant movie introduced Affleck as Christian Wolff, a math genius who cooks the books for clients with illegal business dealings. That film was a success, and Wolff is now set to take center stage in the new story for The Accountant 2. The sequel, which hails from returning director Gavin O’Connor, is also set to bring back several other familiar faces, including Bernthal as Christian’s brother, Brax.
Vanity Fair now releases a handful of new images from The Accountant 2, showing Affleck and Bernthal back in action together. One especially intense image shows the pair heavily armed and seemingly in the midst of a firefight. The other images teases some of the sequel’s other returning characters, including J.K. Simmons as Ray King and Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Marybeth Medina. One image also shows an unnamed new character played by Daniella Pineda. Check out the images below:
What The New Images Mean For The Accountant 2
What The Ben Affleck Sequel Is About
In the Vanity Fair piece, it’s revealed that Christian and Brax will be working together this time around in a story that explores the dark world of human trafficking. Medina recruits Christian to help solve a case after someone close to them is murdered, and this will lead the two estranged brothers to reunite for the first time in eight years. How King and Pineda’s new character fits into this story remains to be seen, but it certainly looks like the sequel will feature the return of many elements that made the first movie a success.
While Affleck remains one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actors, Bernthal’s star power has certainly risen over the last nine years. In addition to his roles in The Bear and Wind River (2017), he’s also now played The Punisher in Daredevil and his very own Disney+ show. Bernthal’s recent career means putting him front and center with Affleck could be wise from a commercial standpoint.
Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle/ The Punisher in the upcoming Disney+ show, Daredevil: Born Again.
Our Take On The New Accountant 2 Images
Will The Sequel Be Better Than The First Accountant?
The first Accountant was unique in the sense that Christian is on the autism spectrum, a quality not typically seen with action heroes. He and his brother were trained from young ages in combat and firearms, and this leads to some intense clashes in the first film. The Accountant 2 pairing these characters together for at least one action sequence could certainly be explosive, and it could mean that the action in the sequel surpᴀsses what was in the original.
The first Accountant grossed $155 million on a $44 million budget and has a 53% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Unfortunately, context for the new images isn’t provided, meaning it remains unclear who Christian and Brax are fighting. Thankfully, The Accountant 2‘s release date is now just over two months away, meaning a trailer will likely be released in the very near future.
