Dave Bautista has joined a new dystopian sci-fi thriller, as the upcoming movie’s first synopsis reveals an alien plotline about protecting family. Bautista’s latest movies have included multiple memorable entries in the sci-fi genre, those being his time as Drax the Destroyer in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and in the cast of Dune: Part Two as Glossu Rabban. Through these memorable characters, the seasoned actor has been able to prove his versatility in the genre, bringing heroes and villains to life.
Now, ᴅᴇᴀᴅline has confirmed Bautista is joining a new dystopian sci-fi thriller with an alien invasion plotline, тιтled Dreadnought, the first details of which have already been revealed. The film comes from directors Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, who previously directed the actor in the 2017 action thriller Bushwick. Dreadnought‘s script was written by Joseph Greenberg, and will see Bautista play Max, a father trying to save his dying daughter from an alien Sentinel, who wants her for “an unstoppable metamorphosis ritual.” Check out the full synopsis for the movie below:
Max (Bautista), whose world was devastated when an alien species crash-landed on Earth, unleashing a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly plague that claimed his wife and much of humanity. In the fragile society that remains, humans have learned to coexist with their extraterrestrial invaders. But for Max, survival isn’t enough.
His older daughter, Greta, is dying from the disease. As her body weakens, an alien Sentinel lurks outside their home, drawing nearer and nearer as Greta takes her final breaths. This silent, unyielding predator is on a mission to collect her body to fulfill an unstoppable metamorphosis ritual. The government sanctions it. Society accepts it. But Max refuses to have anything else taken from him.
What Dreadnought’s Description Says About Bautista’s New Movie
An Apocalyptic Sci-Fi Thriller With A Unique Premise
Dreadnought is produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee from Thunder Road Films, best known for the John Wick movies. Other attached producers include Andrew Bronfman, Jonathan Bronfman, and Jason Ross Jallet from Beyond The Frame, along with Bautista himself and Ashley Daniels for Dogbone Entertainment. Noah Segal from Elevation Pictures serves as executive producer, while Marz VFX, best known for their work on The Creator, will provide the visual special effects for the sci-fi movie’s world. This number of behind-the-scenes producers indicates numerous studios have a vision surrounding the actor’s new thriller project.
The sci-fi movie is one of many upcoming Bautista movies, with the star’s next release being the epic fantasy film In the Lost Lands. He’ll also have a voice role in 2026’s Aang: The Last Airbender, a sequel film to the Nickelodeon series Avatar: The Last Airbender, and is attached to another sci-fi movie, Afterburn, directed by J.J. Perry (The Killer’s Game). This latest film, however, has a unique premise, as it focuses on both a post-apocalyptic dystopia following an alien invasion, and one man’s mission to protect his family from harm.
Our Take On Bautista’s Dreadnought
Another Strong Post-Apocalyptic Story Under His Belt
Bautista is no stranger to post-apocalyptic stories, having started the decade with 2021’s Army of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, which took place in a world ravaged by zombies. While Dreadnought will be taking a sci-fi approach to its world-ending scenario, the plot sounds like another strong story in the genre the actor can put under his belt. With plenty of details still mysterious, such as the extent of the alien invasion’s destruction and why the Sentinel wants Max’s daughter, the movie’s promising synopsis is only just the start.
