Nosferatu Gets Reviewed By Martin Scorsese With The Legendary Director Sharing His Thoughts About Robert Eggers

Nosferatu scores a new review from filmmaker Martin Scorsese, who gushes about Robert Eggers, the film’s director. Hitting theaters in December and marking Eggers’ follow-up to 2022’s The Northman, the remake of the 1922 film chronicles Count Orlok’s (Bill Skarsgård) infatuation with Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp) and the trail of blood he leaves in his wake. Nosferatu reviews were generally positive from critics and audiences alike, and the horror film was a box office success.

During a recent interview with The 92nd Street Y, New York (via CinemaBlend), Scorsese reveals that he has now seen Nosferatu. The legendary Hollywood figure shares a glowing review for the movie, singling out its excellent mood and just how immersive an experience it is. Scorsese also shares high praise for Eggers as a filmmaker, revealing himself to be a fan of the director’s previous work. Check out Scorsese’s review below:

[It’s] amazing. Anything he does, this guy, is amazing. And that’s one [film] that you don’t do much after seeing. You’re still in the world. You’re in there. You’re in Transylvania, and it’s really, ‘Whoa.’ Man, he’s something.

What Martin Scorsese’s Praise Means For Nosferatu

Robert Eggers’ Latest Movie Has Been A Major Win

Before making Nosferatu, Eggers made The Witch (2016), The Lighthouse (2019), and The Northman, and all three of these movies were well-received critically. The director’s latest movie certainly didn’t break this impressive streak, with critics praising the impressive Nosferatu cast, the atmosphere, and the movie’s unique combination of sensuality and terror. Count Orlok, too, is a kind of vampire audiences have never seen before.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Nosferatu boasts an 85% critics’ score and a 73% audience score, and this positive reception is reflected in the movie’s box office performance. Made on an estimated budget of $50 million, Eggers’ film grossed an impressive $173 million worldwide. Scorsese, then, is certainly going with the grain in his response to the movie, and the approval of such a legendary filmmaker is yet another win for Nosferatu after a strong few months in theaters and on VOD.

Nosferatu doesn’t yet have a streaming release date.

Our Take On Scorsese’s Nosferatu Review

Eggers’ Next Horror Movie Is Already Highly Anticipated

Willem Dafoe in Nosferatu

As the director of movies like Taxi Driver (1976), Goodfellas (1990), The Departed (2006), and 2023’s acclaimed Killers of the Flower Moon, Scorsese carries a lot of weight as a filmmaker, and so do his opinions. Nosferatu was already a success before Scorsese shared his review, but the filmmaker’s thoughts are certainly an impressive cherry-on-top for Eggers’ latest film.

Scorsese’s comments suggest he will be anticipating Eggers’ next movie, Werwulf, a 13th-century werewolf movie that will reportedly feature period-accurate English dialogue. This new movie isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until December 2026, but, if Nosferatu is any indication, it will be a high-quality production with the director’s signature sense of mood.
