Vanessa Kirby was confirmed as one fourth of The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ main cast in February 2024, and her introduction to the MCU as Sue Storm’s Invisible Woman is much-anticipated. Kirby takes over from the likes of Rebecca Staab, Jessica Alba and Kate Mara as the Invisible Woman, but very little has, so far, been revealed about Kirby’s version of the iconic Marvel superhero.

The Fantastic Four Could Get New Costumes After First Steps

It seems that Marvel Studios will be introducing the Fantastic Four to the MCU with superhero suits inspired by their alternate universe setting, which means they may not be especially modern. The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be set primarily on an alternate Earth across the MCU’s multiverse, where a retro-futuristic society is perenially stuck in the 1960s. This means the Fantastic Four’s first MCU costumes may be closer in style to their original Marvel Comics design, while Joseph Quinn’s tease at 2024’s D23 teased a blue-and-white look.

Even if this is the case, however, the Fantastic Four are expected to somehow make their way into the present day of the MCU’s main timeline after The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This means that Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm, along with her teammates, will likely be getting updated costumes ahead of their returns in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. These could easily be inspired by the armored, modernized appearance of the Fantastic Four from the recently-released Marvel Rivals game, which has proven rather popular among die-hard Marvel fans.

Sue Storm Would Look Great In A Modernized Fantastic Four Costume

It would be great to see Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm suit up in a version of the character’s Marvel Rivals costume, particularly if the other members of the Fantastic Four follow suit, as this would create synergy between the team. However, it seems much more likely, and perhaps more favorable for Kirby’s character’s individuality, that she and the Fantastic Four suit up in unique MCU costumes. Marvel Studios has recently put much more emphasis on presenting comic-accurate costumes, raising hopes the Fantastic Four’s suits will finally hit the spot.

The costumes in 2005’s Fantastic Four, its 2007 sequel and 2015’s Fantastic Four reboot all had their flaws. With The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it seems as though Marvel Studios is putting more stress on making the Fantastic Four’s costumes comic-accurate, while also tailored for the live-action MCU. This will likely continue through any costume updates that the Fantastic Four might go through after their upcoming debut in July 2025, so the future is looking fashion-forward for Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman and her superhero teammates.
