If You Missed Kristen Stewart’s Oscar-Nominated Performance As Princess Diana, Check Out This Historical Drama From 2021

Kristen Stewart has come a long way in her career, and after her critically acclaimed performance in a 2021 historical drama (now on Netflix), her talent is finally being recognized. Stewart began acting as a child, scoring non-speaking roles in projects such as the Disney Channel Original Movie The Thirteenth Year. However, she soon got parts in films starring opposite renowned actors like Patricia Clarkson, Jodie Foster, and Dennis Quaid. Stewart’s breakthrough came in 2008, though, when she starred in Twilight. She reprised her role in all four sequels of The Twilight Saga, one of the highest-grossing movie franchises ever.

Kristen Stewart’s next two projects include The Challenger, a limited series where she plays astronaut Sally Ride, and Flesh of the Gods, an ’80s vampire thriller film from Panos Cosmatos. Stewart will star opposite Oscar Isaac as a married couple in the movie.

Like Daniel Radcliffe’s unbreakable ties to Harry Potter, it was difficult for people not to immediately (and only) see Stewart as Bella, even when she appeared in other films. Still, she pushed forward and started acting in more independent projects. Stewart eventually made her way back to studio movies like Charlie’s Angels in 2019. Then, her performance in a 2021 film proved she is more than just Bella Swan from Twilight, even earning her an Oscar nod.

Playing Princess Diana In 2021’s Spencer Gave Kristen Stewart Her First Oscar Nomination

The Actress Lost To Jessica Chastain

Critics lauded Kristen Stewart for her performance as Princess Diana in Spencer. The film premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, where it received a three-minute standing ovation (per Variety), in particular for Stewart’s role. Consequently, she was nominated for various prestigious awards, including Best Actress at the 94th Academy Awards. Unfortunately, Stewart didn’t win the Oscar. She lost to Jessica Chastain, who won for her performance as Tammy Faye Bakker in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Many claimed that Stewart was snubbed. However, she did win a Satellite Award for her role as Princess Diana in Spencer.
