Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Might Make John Hammond A Villain Thanks To An Egregious Plot Hole

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth might turn John Hammond into a villain thanks to an egregious plot hole that adds new secrets to InGen’s past dinosaurs. The story of Jurᴀssic World Rebirth follows covert operative Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), paleontologist Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey), and team leader Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) on a mission to gather DNA from the three biggest dinosaurs in existence. The mission Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s characters are on will seemingly lead to the development of a drug that can help save people. However, the trailer has revealed just how many new dangers they’ll be facing.

While Jurᴀssic World Dominion ended with dinosaurs living all around the Earth, its sequel will be heading to a new island connected to the original Jurᴀssic Park. Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s trailer revealed the new location was where InGen was secretly developing the first dinosaurs for the Park. Those that are still on the island were unused ᴀssets, thriving for decades in the area without any human intervention. The concept teases plenty of pulse-pounding danger for the core trio’s mission, but it also reveals one concerning element of the new story being told.

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s New Dinosaurs Create A Major Plot Hole

The Dinosaurs Were Never Brought Up In Previous Movies

Previous Jurᴀssic Park movies established there are two main islands within the film canon. The first movie took place on Isla Nublar, where the original Park was built, while The Lost World and Jurᴀssic Park III happened on Isla Sorna, where dinosaurs roamed free. Isla Nublar was destroyed after a volcanic eruption in Jurᴀssic World: Fallen Kingdom, while some dinosaurs from Isla Sorna were taken to both Jurᴀssic World and Biosyn’s sanctuary. However, this third island full of dinosaurs has never been mentioned before.

This is the first new island to be introduced in the franchise since The Lost World: Jurᴀssic Park.

Because the new island’s purpose was to experiment for the original Jurᴀssic Park, it’s unclear why Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s dinosaurs were left alive there. It’s possible this was done due to a similar situation to Isla Sorna, where a hurricane forced workers to flee, while leaving the dinosaur pens open so they didn’t die. But it’s still odd the third island was never mentioned in previous movies, even though InGen had been working there long before the original Park opened. This also means the company was keeping secrets in the original trilogy, despite the disasters they were responsible for.

John Hammond Had To Have Known About Jurᴀssic World Rebirth’s New Dinosaurs & Island

The Third Island Was Important To Shaping Jurᴀssic Park

Since the new island was an important research facility for Jurᴀssic Park, this means John Hammond must have known about its existence from the very first movie. The trailer shows a ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Velociraptor preserved in a tube, dinosaur embryos, and Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s new monster dinosaur, all evidence of the experimentation InGen was conducting. Given Hammond’s constant involvement in developing every facet of the original Park, he must have known about the experiments being conducted there. This means he knew about a third island, but never told anyone about it in the prior movies.

He didn’t tell Ian Malcolm about Isla Sorna until the events of The Lost World: Jurᴀssic Park, in hopes of stopping Peter Ludlow from using it to save the company from bankruptcy.

This makes even more sense when considering how much he was willing to preserve InGen’s secrets, even after the events of the first movie. He didn’t tell Ian Malcolm about Isla Sorna until the events of The Lost World: Jurᴀssic Park, in hopes of stopping Peter Ludlow from using it to save the company from bankruptcy. It’s possible his reason for keeping the island a secret was to ensure no more negative press about the company came out, especially given the experimental dinosaurs created there. However, it frames Hammond himself in a new light Jurᴀssic World Rebirth could explore.

John Hammond’s Secret Dinosaurs Could Turn Him Into A Villain

InGen’s Lack Of Care For Human Life Continues To Grow

Hammond knowing about the new island since Jurᴀssic Park adds another secret to InGen’s long list that risks the loss of innocent human life. Jurᴀssic World Rebirth‘s new island was never revealed to the public, something that could paint the Park’s founder as a villain, because he didn’t fully disclose everything his company was doing with dinosaurs. The consequences of his decision not to tell anyone will be felt in the movie, yet it also creates a plot hole that paints his purpose in previous films in a darker light.

This new island of dinosaurs means that Hammond was keeping these Jurᴀssic Park experiments a secret from the public, causing a higher risk for those in the area who stumbled across the dinosaur-laden location. It’s a plot hole that turns him into a genuine villain because of the decades-long history the island is being given, with InGen clearly trying to keep it hidden from the world. Jurᴀssic World Rebirth is likely going to reveal even more secrets about the location, giving a new perspective on Hammond’s work as new elements are revealed.
