I Don’t Think I’ll Ever Get Over How Spot-On The DC Universe’s Newest Green Arrow Fan Casting Choice Really Is

Fans have started to fan-cast the DCU’s version of Green Arrow, and one casting choice in particular has stunned me with how perfect it is. The DCU is just five months from getting underway in earnest with the release of Superman on July 11. As we near this release date, casting decisions for some of DC Comics’ foremost characters have been coming together, with one of the most recent being Jason Momoa’s Lobo. Momoa has been fan-cast as DC’s Main Man for quite some time, and I happily joined in on calls to bring the fan-cast to life.

Now that the DCU has proven that it takes the desires of fans seriously, I can’t get enough of other choices that fans have been suggesting online. This recently culminated in fan-casting for Oliver Queen, AKA Green Arrow – a character I’m excited to see brought to life on the big screen. While Arrow enjoyed a successful, 8-year run with Stephen Amell in the eponymous role, it stands to reason that the DCU, which has dropped most of the longstanding DC actors in favor of new blood so far, would move on to a newer actor.

The DC Universe’s Latest Green Arrow Fan Casting Choice Is Ridiculously Close Casting

Harry Goodwins Looks Identical To Oliver Queen

If the DCU is already looking for a new Green Arrow actor, then it should pay attention to Harry Goodwins. The actor has apparently been campaigning on his social media (posted via Reddit) to join the DCU as Green Arrow, stating in a story posted to his Instagram “2025 I have big motions…It’s happening.” He also tagged DC Studios Co-CEO James Gunn and the official DC page in his post, which was posted alongside an image of Oliver Queen loosing an arrow in DC Comics.

For the most part, it seems fans are united on one thing in particular: Goodwins looks identical to Oliver Queen. The post on Reddit demonstrates this with a headsH๏τ of Goodwins sporting wavy golden hair and a well-kept goatee synonymous with Green Arrow. There is a caveat among most in agreement, however, insofar as their approval hinges on Goodwins’ acting ability. After all, while Robert Downey Jr. was always the perfect fit for Iron Man physically, it was his acting that made the role so iconic. Thankfully, I think Goodwins has just as much potential.

Harry Goodwins’ Acting History Supports The Chances Of Him Being The Ideal Green Arrow Casting

Goodwins’ Star Power Is Rising After The Gentlemen

Harry Goodwins' jack glᴀss in a boxing ring in the gentlemen

Harry Goodwins is still relatively unknown in Hollywood, starring such lesser-known movies as Angels vs Bullies, Journey to Hell, and In His Hands: The Emergence. His most recent role in Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen is proof that his star power is on the rise, however. Here, he stars as Jack Glᴀss, son of Ray Winstone’s patriarchal crime boss, Bobby Glᴀss, whose contributions to the firm are superseded by his pᴀssion for boxing. The Gentlemen has been renewed and has been well-received by critics.

Both are heirs to family wealth, and both are particularly preoccupied with physical pursuits.

I think this is a promising sign for Goodwins’ DCU hopes. Not only does it bolster Goodwins’ acting credentials, but the parallels between Jack Glᴀss and Oliver Queen are hard to ignore. Both are heirs to family wealth, and both are particularly preoccupied with physical pursuits. As a result of both this and his modeling career outside of acting, Goodwins also sports the kind of superhero physique that audiences have come to expect from superhero movie stars. As Oliver Queen is more akin to Batman in his lack of metahuman powers, his success often falls to his physical prowess.

Harry Goodwins Seems To Be Exactly In-Line With The DC Universe’s Big Hero Casting Wishes

DCU Actors Are Lesser-Known But Look The Part

Of course, when deciding whether Harry Goodwins is the right person for the job, one high-profile series is very little to go off. At the same time, however, this falls in line with the DCU’s casting decisions so far, as Superman himself helps to demonstrate. David Corenswet may be more well-known than Goodwins, having recently starred in Pearl and Twisters, but he certainly isn’t the most high-profile of actors. The same can also be said of Milly Alcock, who is best known for portraying a young Rhaenyra in House of the Dragon, and will be the DCU’s Supergirl.

Momoa’s Lobo is due to appear alongside Alcok’s Kara Zor-El in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Yet Green Arrow isn’t nearly as well known as Superman, and I think he’s the perfect candidate for DC to spotlight a newer, lesser-known actor like Harry Goodwins. Furthermore, the DCU’s casting decisions thus far seem to suggest that physical resemblances play an important role, with David Corenswet’s Clark Kent and Jason Momoa’s Lobo being prime examples. With that in mind, I think it’s only a matter of time before James Gunn announces Harry Goodwins being brought on as the DCU’s Green Arrow – though exactly when that will be remains to be seen.
