The Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to release Captain America: Brave New World, the first Captain America film to feature Sam Wilson in the тιтular role, and it seems that the protagonist might regret not having taken a Super Serum in the film. One of the strangest distinctions about Sam Wilson’s Captain America is that the hero does not have super powers. Instead, Sam has a set of metal wings, and carries the vibranium Captain America shield. While this is enough for some conflicts, it is not enough for all of them.
This becomes a little more difficult with the new film, which sees Captain America facing off against the MCU’s Red Hulk. In conversation with ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley, a recent TV spot was brought up. In the scene, facing off against the Red Hulk, Sam mutters “I should have taken that serum.” This regret is notable, as Sam has many reasons not to take the serum. This has led to speculation that the line was spoken in jest, although Mackie’s clarification helps to make a little more sense.
Rather than writing off the line, Mackie believes that it makes sense for where the character is at. “Well, I think when you’re faced with a Hulk, be it green or red, you would take anything you can to beat him up,” he said. This outlook makes sense and suggests some of the genuine terror that Captain America would feel in facing such an incredible foe. This will likely contribute to a tense and exciting action scene.
What Anthony Mackie’s Super Serum Comments Mean for Captain America: Brave New World
The Hero Will Do Whatever It Takes To Stop The Red Hulk
Mackie’s comments suggest that, following the mysterious origin of Red Hulk, Captain America will be rightfully intimidated in the new film. This admission of fear for facing the Red Hulk speaks to the terrifying nature of the new villain. With incredible powers that will surely outmatch Captain America’s own abilities, it would make sense for Sam in this scene to regret some of the choices that led him to this situation. While Sam had his reasons for not taking the serum previously, he would likely feel some regret here.
As shown in Sam Wilson’s many MCU appearances, his Captain America is very different from Steve Rogers’, and the Super Serum use is an important distinction between them. Rather than being superpowered, Sam Wilson has gadgets and heart to support him on his mission. This may not be enough against certain Marvel villains, however. Following this, it makes sense to wonder if, in a tense situation, Sam Wilson may wind up taking the serum at some point after all.
Our Take On Anthony Mackie’s Super Serum Comments
The Comments Suggest At Least Some Willingness To Take The Serum
Ever since Sam Wilson became Captain America, audiences have been confused by his lack of powers. It would make sense to see Sam take the Super Soldier Serum, and I wonder if that could occur in this film when the hero is forced to take on the Red Hulk. There are too many incredible powers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that will go beyond Captain America: Brave New World, and the hero needs to be equipped to stand against them. However, whatever choice Sam makes will be important to the MCU’s future.
