Peter Jackson and Mark Wahlberg‘s Oscar-nominated supernatural movie that made $93 million at the box office has landed on Netflix’s global chart 15 years after its release. The New Zealander is best known as the director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which he co-wrote with Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens based on the books by J.R.R. Tolkien, winning him a total of three Oscars. Jackson, the fifth-highest-grossing director of all time, has also helmed the critically acclaimed drama Heavenly Creatures, the horror-comedy The Frighteners, and the 2005 King Kong remake.
On the other hand, Wahlberg broke out with his critically acclaimed performance in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Boogie Nights. In the early 2000s, the actor ventured into big-budget action movies such as The Perfect Storm, Planet of the Apes, and The Italian Job. Though, in 2006, he starred in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed and received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and in 2010, he starred in The Fighter and earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor. But between them, Wahlberg teamed up with Jackson for a supernatural drama.

Our Take On The Lovely Bones’ Netflix Success
Is It Worth Watching?
In 2009, The Lovely Bones was released to largely negative reviews, which praised Jackson’s signature breathtaking visuals, but criticized the movie’s jarring tonal shifts from brutal violence to overly sentimental moments. However, the film does feature a few praiseworthy performances, including one of Ronan’s earlier roles, though it was Tucci whose turn as a serial killer earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Following its resurgence on Netflix, there may be a newfound appreciation for these performances, but whether The Lovely Bones is worth watching depends on one’s tolerance for its tonal imbalances.
