Sigourney Weaver just shared what really fueled her decision to join Star Wars’ upcoming movie The Mandalorian and Grogu, and it’s all to do with the тιтular lead and fan-favorite character Grogu. The Mandalorian and Grogu is perhaps the most highly anticipated of all Star Wars’ upcoming movies, although details about The Mandalorian and Grogu are still being kept under wraps for the most part. As the movie’s May 22, 2026, release date approaches, though, audiences are eager to find out more about what this brand-new Star Wars story may entail.
According to GamesRadar, Grogu played a major role in Sigourney Weaver’s decision to sign on for The Mandalorian and Grogu. Weaver shared:
“I get to have scenes with a little Grogu, which is probably why I did the movie…. And he’s a little badᴀss, too. It’s going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he’s grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series.”
In addition to sharing Weaver’s (rather funny) explanation for her interest in The Mandalorian and Grogu, this interview reveals so much more about how Grogu’s story may be surprising for many in the upcoming movie.
Grogu Has Become A Lot More Powerful Since The Mandalorian Season 1
The Mandalorian Already Revealed Grogu’s Growth, And More Is Yet To Come
Grogu may have begun as “baby Yoda” in The Mandalorian, but he has grown in more ways than one over the show’s three seasons. The Mandalorian’s season 3 ending made that quite clear when Grogu used the incredible Force power Force barrier and saved himself, Din Djarin, and Bo-Katan Kryze from being engulfed in flames and dying alongside Moff Gideon. Grogu has clearly gone from a child to a much more powerful Star Wars character and, evidently, The Mandalorian and Grogu will only see him grow that much more.
It’s unclear whether Weaver’s comments specifically pertain to Grogu’s Force abilities, especially considering Grogu decided to walk away from Luke’s teaching and the Jedi path in The Book of Boba Fett. Whether these comments refer to Grogu’s use of the Force or not, though, it’s clear that he has gotten a bit older and even more powerful since the end of The Mandalorian season 3. It will be thrilling to see what shape that development takes.
Our Take On Grogu’s Star Wars Future
We Can’t Wait To See What Comes Next For Grogu (And Din Djarin)
The Mandalorian season 3 left Grogu and Din Djarin in an incredibly exciting spot, with Grogu having been formally adopted by Din Djarin and beginning his life as a Mandalorian. In addition to that, Din Djarin agreed to help the New Republic on certain missions, which suggests what could be next for the duo. It’s not entirely clear at what point in the Star Wars timeline The Mandalorian and Grogu will be set, at least in terms of the exact year, but it’s thrilling to imagine Din and Grogu taking on a bigger role in the larger galaxy.
It will also simply be delightful to see the family dynamic between Din Djarin and Grogu once again. The parent-child relationship between Din and Grogu has been incredibly touching, and getting to see it played out on the big screen is a major and wonderful update to this story. While Sigourney Weaver may not have given too much away, her comments about what’s to come in The Mandalorian and Grogu suggest that Star Wars’ favorite father-son duo is about to get so much better.
