Geraldine Viswanathan and Meredith Hagner are at odds in You’re Cordially Invited. The pair of actresses play two brides, Jenni and Neve, respectively, who accidentally double-book their wedding venues, leading to a blood feud between two of their family members, Jim (Will Ferrell) and Margot (Reese Witherspoon), over who’s ceremony should take precedence.

This Prime Video comedy kicks off a big year for Viswanathan. The Australian native is set to make her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Thunderbolts* when that Marvel Studios team-up releases this summer. You’re Cordially Invited continues a H๏τ streak of laughs for Hagner, as she has featured in the Vacation Friends franchise as well as the critically-acclaimed Joy Ride in recent years.

In celebration of You’re Cordially Invited‘s streaming premiere on Prime Video, ScreenRant spoke with Viswanathan and Hagner to share some on-set stories, reveal how one of the movie’s surprise cameos came to be, and subtly address what could be in store for Viswanathan when she joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“That was all improvised… and that just absolutely destroyed me on that day…”

ScreenRant: I was crying laughing in the press screening, getting stares and all. I would love to know when you guys are making this film, there’s no laughter that goes on in a comedy when you’re acting on screen. You’re acting like everything is normal. There’s no way you sH๏τ this without bursting into laughs at certain points. What’s the hardest you guys each left on set?

Meredith Hagner: Oh God, definitely. Just anytime I was watching just Will be Will. I mean, just him doing his thing. I mean, it’s like how do you, not just, I am trying to remember a specific time.

Geraldine Viswanathan: I remember there’s Will and when he’s talking to one of the nephews and they’re like, ‘You’re my dog. You are my dog.’ That was all improvised and they just kept barking at each other and it just got crazier and crazier and that just absolutely destroyed me on the day and I’m really glad it’s in the movie because it’s insane.

Meredith Hagner: Also, Jack McBrayer, you kissing Jack McBrayer. There’s also just Jack McBrayer’s faces. He knows how to, when they cut to him and his sH๏τ, he was just with the cake on his mouth.

“And I was like, ‘Mr. Hollywood needs to have the part [specified]…”

There’s a lot of great surprise cameos in this movie. One that shocks me, Meredith, was your husband, Wyatt Russell, popping up early on. How did that come about?

Meredith Hagner: It’s literally we trade off. So I’ll do a project, he’ll do a project, just kind of what’s coming both our ways, and this was my turn to work and he was kind of holding it down with the babies and I was like, ‘Babe, there’s this little cameo and the movie.’ And I think he was like, ‘Well, what’s the part?’ And I was like, ‘Oh, Mr. Hollywood needs to have the part [specified].’ I was like, ‘It’s my movie.’ Okay, my movie in addition to Reese and Will. But I was like, ‘Just go. They need a person and you’re in town, so just go.’ And I bullied him into it and he was like, ‘What’s the part? And then he literally cut a mutton chop beard for it. He was like, ‘Okay, I’m the host of the thing.’ And then it’s literally one second, which makes me laugh so hard. He did mutton chops for this one second blink-you-miss cameo. He’s a very committed actor who’s literally going to work with Steven Spielberg next week and gave us one second of his time on this.

Well, at least we got to see a little bit more of Wyatt in the ending reprisal of the song number in this movie. I don’t want to say what song it is. I want to let our audience enjoy that for themselves. Geraldine, you and Will have quite the musical number in this film. Would you consider yourself to be… a songbird?

Geraldine Viswanathan: I have no idea what you’re talking about. Never in my life have I heard something like that. Oh, look what you’ve done! Now I’m all nervous. In this film, in You’re Cordially Invited, I sing, I sing a song, but I’m not a bird. That’s right.

Fair enough. I don’t know what you’re interpreting from that question, Geraldine, but-

Geraldine Viswanathan: Oh no, actually no. I’m so normal and relaxed right now. You (Meredith) have no idea what’s happening right now.

Meredith Hagner: I am so confused.

Geraldine Viswanathan: I’ll fill you in later.
