Keanu Reeves & Sandra Bullock’s $350M Action Movie On Streaming Is A Fantastic Reminder To Watch Their Underrated Fantasy Reunion From 19 Years Ago

After watching the Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock action thriller Speed on Max, make sure to check out the acting duo’s 2006 fantasy romance drama. Over three decades after its initial release in theaters, the instant classic Speed is currently trending on Max. Often considered one of Keanu Reeves’ best action films, Speed became one of the biggest blockbuster hits for both Bullock and Reeves, earning more than $350 million worldwide.

While Reeves didn’t reprise his lead role as Jack Traven in Speed 2: Cruise Control, Bullock returned as Annie in the 1997 sequel alongside Jason Patric, Willem Dafoe, and Temuera Morrison. Speed 2 was not nearly as much of a box office hit as its predecessor, earning just under $165 million worldwide. While Reeves and Bullock never returned to co-star in an action film since the 2-time Oscar-winning Speed, they reunited onscreen for the 2006 romantic fantasy film The Lake House.

Sandra Bullock & Keanu Reeves’ The Lake House Movie Is Great To Watch After Speed

Bullock & Reeves Have Outstanding Romantic Chemistry In The Lake House

While Speed and The Lake House are two very different movies in terms of genre, Bullock and Reeves still have great chemistry in The Lake House, matching their on-screen chemistry in Speed. Directed by Alejandro Agresti, The Lake House is an adaptation of the 2000 South Korean film Il Mare, which earned an 89% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The Lake House is ultimately more romantically charged than Speed, which highlights Bullock and Reeves’s intimate performances.

The Lake House has an intriguing concept that connects Reeves’ Alex Wyler and Bullock’s Kate Foster in unique and unexpected ways. Kate, a doctor, is a former resident of a lake house that Alex, an architect, currently lives in. Kate and Alex exchange love letters to each other, which unravels a mystical mystery at the heart of their unusual, time-transcending bond.

The Lake House also features an exceptional supporting cast that includes Christopher Plummer and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

The second Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock movie also features an exceptional supporting cast that includes Christopher Plummer (Knives Out), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Fantastic Four: First Steps), and Lynn Collins (X-Men Origins: Wolverine). It’s currently available to stream on Roku Channel or rent on Amazon and Apple.

The Lake House Is Much More Entertaining Than Its Rotten Tomatoes Score Suggests

Its Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score Is Much Higher Than Its Critic Score

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock in The Lake House

The Lake House only received a 35% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, far less than Speed’s Certified Fresh 95% Rotten Tomatoes score. Even though The Lake House has a pretty terrible critics score, it has a much better audience score of 73%, which is just shy of Speed’s audience score of 77%. Despite these numbers, The Lake House is still worth a watch for its highly original concept and the great performances by Bullock and Reeves. Released 12 years after Speed, The Lake House also offers a vintage 2000s tone that makes it a nostalgic watch, falling into a similar category as The Notebook and Serendipity.
