Marvel Studios producer Nate Moore chimes in on the reports that Black Panther 3 will cast a new actor to take on the role of T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the toughest chapters in the MCU timeline for Marvel Studios was the difficult decision to have T’Challa pᴀss away in the Black Panther franchise following the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020. Then, reports recently surfaced that Black Panther 3 may be looking at recasting T’Challa, which has fueled the conversation about how Marvel Studios may approach that.
In a new interview with ComicBook, Captain America: Brave New World producer Nate Moore, who is also producing Black Panther 3, was asked if there is any truth to the reports about Marvel Studios recasting the role of T’Challa for the upcoming sequel. Moore confirmed that the Black Panther 3 recasting rumors are not true, as he shared the following:
The truth is, there’s no truth to those rumors. Never say never to anything, we haven’t really had a lot of creative conversations with Ryan Coogler yet, because he’s finishing his film Sinners, which comes out this year. We’ll get into it later this year, but everything you read online is not true, if for no other reason than we just haven’t started [working on it].
What Nate Moore’s Black Panther Recasting Comments Mean For The MCU
When it comes to the subject of whether the MCU should have recast T’Challa, there was always a divide about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever having Boseman’s character die at the start of the film. However, the idea of Black Panther 3 recasting T’Challa could work with the multiverse concept by having a variant be brought into Earth-616. Since the MCU has already established that characters like Spider-Man can have multiple actors playing variants from various universes, that could work for Black Panther 3.
However, based on Moore’s comments, even if they have The Multiverse Saga at their disposal, it is less about how to do it and more so if they should do it in Black Panther 3. It’s crucial to remember that Shuri has barely been the MCU’s Black Panther since she only took on the mantle towards the latter half of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. A hypothetical Black Panther 3 would do a disservice to Shuri’s character if they already decided to introduce a new T’Challa, especially after how Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was a universal way for the world to grieve Boseman’s pᴀssing.
Our Take On Nate Moore’s Black Panther Recasting Comments
Moore’s comments make perfect sense, since Black Panther 3 is still so early on in the development process and hadn’t been announced officially yet. It’s far too early for a discussion about whether they’ll cast a new actor to play T’Challa. It may be easier after The Multiverse Saga, following the reported soft reboot coming in Avengers: Secret Wars, where they could establish a new timeline that has someone else playing T’Challa. But for now, the world will have to wait and see if there are any more concrete Black Panther 3 updates arriving in 2025 and whether that will include the addition of a new T’Challa in the MCU.
