Paddington 3 Nears Major Global Box Office Milestone 2 Weeks Before It Releases In US

Paddington in Peru may not be arriving in US theaters until February 14, but its box office takings from global markets have already placed the sequel in a very strong place ahead of its North American debut. The movie sees series directing newcomer Dougal Wilson take helm of a new tale that sees Ben Whishaw’s bear visit Peru in search of his aunt Lucy. Paddington in Peru‘s cast also features Hugh Bonneville, Madeline Harris, and Samuel Joslin as the Browns, Julie Walters as Mrs. Bird, and Emily Mortimer takes on the role of Mary. Antonio Banderas and Olivia Colman also join the series.

Despite being two weeks from its US debut, The Numbers reports that Paddington in Peru is set to pᴀss a major milestone. From its current international box office takings alone, the movie has earned $93.2 million from overseas territories. With these releases and the movie set to open in several other countries in the lead-up to its US release, it is likely the movie will earn over $100 million before it reaches US audiences.

What Paddington In Peru’s Global Success Means For The Franchise

Despite New Direction, The Movie Is On Course To Be As Strong As Prior Installments

With Paddington in Peru seemingly on track to surpᴀss the $100 million mark on its international box office takings alone, there are several positive deductions that can be made from its current earnings. The movie was produced on a budget of £72.2 million, which converts to an estimated $89.4 million dollars. As such, through its international box office, the movie has already surpᴀssed the cost of its budget.

Furthermore, the positive critical reception and the cinema-going audience’s support for the sequel is a good sign for the franchise’s future. Paddington in Peru not only marked a casting reshuffle due to Sally Hawkins having to step away from the role of Mary, but it also saw a new director lend their vision to the franchise as Paul King departed from the position. However, with the latest installment earning a consistent score with what came before, it is clear that Wilson has successfully taken up the mantle and proved that the series has plenty of life even though certain creatives have had to step away.

Our Thoughts On Paddington In Peru’s Box-Office Performance

The Movie Is Still Early In Its Release Cycle

Paddington in Peru closing in on $100 million from its international box office alone has placed the movie in an incredibly strong position ahead of its US release. The original Paddington and Paddington 2 each collected $76.2 million and $40.9 million, respectively, from their domestic releases, with each feature ultimately being a financial success.

Furthermore, the US isn’t the only territory where Paddington in Peru has yet to open, as the movie has yet to be released in various countries, including France, Spain, and Turkey. With the movie still early in its run in various other territories and having yet to debut in others, Paddington in Peru is well on course to be just as profitable as its prior installments, despite its record-high budget for the series.
