Before Wednesday Season 2 Returns, Watch Jenna Ortega’s Trending $910M Franchise Horror Movie From 2 Years Ago On Netflix

While waiting for Wednesday season 2 to arrive, there’s a fantastic Jenna Ortega horror movie trending on Netflix to watch. Though it’s been nearly three years since the Tim Burton-produced and directed series hit Netflix, Wednesday season 2’s release is finally approaching with a confirmed debut in 2025. After seeing Ortega shine in other horror projects like Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in the time since, it’ll be exciting to see the actress don the black Nevermore uniform, braids, and dark, sardonic wit of Wednesday Addams again.

Though playing Wednesday on Netflix’s Addams Family spinoff series marked her big breakout role, Ortega had already been making waves in the horror genre for quite some time before its premiere. In 2022 alone, Ortega appeared in the successful Scream (2022) reboot film, Ti West’s hit slasher X, Dave Grohl’s Studio 666, and the horror comedy American Carnage. Ortega’s breakout in Wednesday and her various 2022 horror movies opened the door for a bigger spotlight in the 2023 Scream sequel, which is now enjoying another resurgence in popularity on Netflix.

Jenna Ortega’s Scream 6 Role Is Perfect To Watch Before Wednesday Season 2

After joining the streaming service’s library in January, Scream 6 is now high among Netflix’s top 10 trending movies. Considering the film is the latest entry in one of the most popular horror franchises of all time (having amᴀssed over $910 million at the box office across six movies), stars one of the most popular young actors in Hollywood, and Scream 7 is releasing next year, the high viewership for Scream 6 on Netflix isn’t too surprising. Additionally, it makes for a great watch for fans of Wednesday who want to see Jenna Ortega perform in another hit horror-comedy.

Like Wednesday, Scream 6 is filled with dark satire, timely cultural commentary, and a great blend of horror and comedy. Scream 6 is, of course, much gorier than Wednesday, but both projects see Jenna Ortega try to evade a mysterious killer attacking her classmates and family. Wednesday and Scream 6 also give Ortega some intriguing family dynamics in her characters’ stories that connect back to the killers, with the tension between Tara and Sam drawing some comparisons to that between Wednesday and Morticia. Not to mention, eagle-eyed fans can also spot some Wednesday/Addams Family Easter eggs in Scream 6.

Wednesday Season 2’s Bigger Horror Emphasis Helps Make Up For Jenna Ortega’s Scream 7 Absence

Wednesday Season 2 Will Dive Deeper Into Horror Than Season 1

Sadly, Jenna Ortega won’t be back for Scream 7. Her absence is reportedly due to scheduling conflicts with Wednesday season 2, which is disappointing given how the Scream franchise gave Ortega a much different outlet for diving into the darker, gorier horror genre landscape. However, Ortega promised that Wednesday season 2 has a much greater focus on its horror elements, making for a darker and scarier take on the Addams Family characters. While it’s not expected to be anywhere near as bloody and violent as Scream, Wednesday is getting much closer to that macabre horror approach than season 1.
