2024 Action Movie With 0% Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Trending On Streaming

A 2024 action movie with a 0% score on Rotten Tomatoes is trending on a major streaming chart. The year featured quite a few well-regarded entries in the genre, with at least nine тιтles officially becoming Certified Fresh on the review aggregator platform. This includes the Ridley Scott legacy sequel Gladiator II (71%), the Nicolas Cage post-apocalypse movie Arcadian (78%), the Ryan Gosling action-comedy The Fall Guy (82%), and the Jeremy Saulnier Netflix offering Rebel Ridge (96%).

2024 action movies also had the capacity to be huge box office successes. One of the year’s earliest hits was the Jason Statham outing The Beekeeper, which grossed $153 million against its $40 million budget after debuting on January 12. By the end of 2024, multiple Top 20 тιтles of the year were from the action genre, including Bad Boys: Ride or Die (No. 14 with $404.5 million), Venom: The Last Dance (No. 10 with $478.8 million), Dune: Part Two (No. 6 with $714.6 million), and ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine (No. 2 with $1.338 billion).

The Painter Is Succeeding On Paramount+

It Is Outdoing A Wide Range Of Movies

2024’s The Painter has found unexpected success. The movie, which follows a retired CIA officer who has taken up painting and whose past comes back to haunt him, stars How to Get Away with Murder‘s Charlie Weber, The 100‘s Marie Avgeropoulos, Outer Banks‘ Madison Bailey, and Oscar winner Jon Voight, who is the patriarch of a Hollywood family that includes his daughter Angelina Jolie. The movie had a dismal critical reception, earning a Rotten Tomatoes score of 0% from 10 different reviews.

Jon Voight won an Oscar for Best Actor in 1979 for his role in Coming Home, though he was previously nominated for Midnight Cowboy and would go on to earn nods for Runaway Train and Ali.

Now, The Painter has appeared on the daily Paramount+ Top 10 movie chart. At the time of writing, it is No. 6, behind Gladiator II at No. 1, the original Gladiator at No. 2, the new Star Trek movie Section 31 at No. 3, the 2022 smash hit legacy sequel Top Gun: Maverick at No. 4, and the action movie First Shift at No. 5. First Shift does not have an official Rotten Tomatoes score, so Section 31 (20%) is the only тιтle above The Painter that has a Rotten score, as the other three тιтles are all Certified Fresh.

What This Means For The Painter

Its Streaming Success May Not Last

Although The Painter has landed on the chart above a wide variety of better reviewed тιтles, including the Jack Reacher movie Never Go Back (37%) at No. 8, this does not mean that the action movie will continue making a splash. While it seems that the movie’s availability on Paramount+ has piqued the curiosity of many viewers, it currently holds an audience score of just 35% on Rotten Tomatoes. This would seem to indicate that those viewers generally remain unsatisfied with the project, so it could drop off the chart relatively quickly.
