Ryan Coogler’s New Movie Can Confirm We’re In A New Era Of Vampire Horror After Nosferatu’s Success

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan have teamed up again but now for the action horror movie Sinners, which, after Nosferatu’s success, confirms an exciting new era in film. After the success of the Creed trilogy, Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler are reuniting once more in a project completely different from the story of Adonis Johnson. тιтled Sinners, it’s a period action horror movie written and directed by Coogler and starring Jordan as twin brothers Smoke and Stack – but what makes this project especially exciting is that it’s a vampire movie.

Sinners follows Smoke and Stack, who return to their hometown for a fresh start in an effort to leave their troubled lives behind. However, once back in town, they are welcomed by an even greater evil that will put their lives at great risk. Sinners brings together horror, action, music, and an exciting cast, featuring Hailee Steinfeld, Wunmi Mosaku, Jack O’Connell, and more. Sinners is scheduled for an April 2025 release, and after the success of Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, it can confirm an exciting new era for one specific genre.

The Vampire Genre Has Struggled Lately

The vampire genre has always had an audience, but like many other genres and styles, it has gone through waves of popularity. For example, the 1990s saw a wave of vampire movies with тιтles like From Dusk Till Dawn, Interview with the Vampire, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and the 2000s went down in history for movies like Blade and Underworld, but mostly for The Twilight Saga. The latter changed the way vampires are seen and represented, but the genre has slowly but surely gone back to darker and more “traditional” depictions of these creatures.

More recent vampire movies, however, while fun, also struggled either with critics, at the box office, or both.

The 2020s so far have seen vampire movies like Morbius, which became infamous for its bad performance and reception, but also fun stories like Netflix’s Day Shift. More recent vampire movies, however, while fun, also struggled either with critics, at the box office, or both. The action comedy Renfield, released in 2023, although based on a character from Dracula but with a twist, got mixed reviews and was a box-office bomb. Months later, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, also based on Dracula, was released, and it bombed at the box office, as well.

Abigail, directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, received positive reviews from critics, and though it wasn’t a box office bomb like the examples above, it wasn’t a hit, either, grossing $42.8 million against a budget of $28 million. However, the future of the vampire genre is now looking bright thanks to Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, and Coogler’s Sinners might be on its way to success, as well.

Ryan Coogler & Robert Eggers Can Reinvigorate The Vampire Genre

The Vampire Genre Is About To Go Through Another Successful Wave

Robert Eggers’ most recent project is the vampire movie Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 German expressionist classic of the same name by F. W. Murnau. Nosferatu has been a critical and commercial success, becoming Eggers’ highest-grossing movie to date. Nosferatu’s success will inevitably reignite interest in vampire movies from both filmmakers and audiences, and Sinners can continue this streak of success. Coogler’s direction and writing, along with Jordan’s talent, can make Sinners one of the best vampire movies in recent years, thus helping maintain the popularity of the genre and making way for more vampire movies.
