When Harry Met Sally Stars Recreate Iconic Scene With Sydney Sweeney In Super Bowl Ad

The iconic diner scene from When Harry Met Sally… is recreated in a commercial for Super Bowl LIX. While at a diner, Sally (Meg Ryan) and Harry (Billy Crystal) discuss whether women ever fake orgasms, leading Sally to loudly demonstrate how easy it is to fake one. This catches the attention of the other diner customers, causing one of them to say, “I’ll have what she’s having,” which has proven to be a timeless When Harry Met Sally quote. Ryan recently teased that she and Crystal were reuniting, leading to speculation about what this would entail.

Hellmann’s has now shared their Super Bowl LIX commercial, which features Ryan and Crystal recreating the diner scene with Sydney Sweeney. Crystal makes a remark about how he is surprised they were allowed back into the diner, while Ryan ᴀssures him that no one remembers that. Dissatisfied with her sandwich, Ryan puts Hellman’s mayonnaise on it, which elicits a reaction akin to faking an orgasm. The Reunion Is Not For A Sequel

Ryan and Crystal’s reunion tease, which was shared via Ryan’s Instagram page, showed a picture of the romantic comedy stars together with the caption stating that “It’s finally happening, we’re reuniting for something iconic.” This led to speculation that a When Harry Met Sally… sequel might be in the works 36 years after the original movie was released. Instead of a sequel, the reunion is a Hellmann’s mayonnaise commercial that will air during Super Bowl LIX.

When Harry Met Sally… is considered to be one of the all-time best romantic comedy movies. This makes Ryan and Crystal’s reunion and recreation of the diner scene instantly recognizable, even though it is only for a one-minute commercial. The commercial’s biggest twist is the appearance of Sweeney, who was born eight years after the theatrical debut of When Harry Met Sally… Sweeney may help the commercial stand out to younger viewers who are familiar with her and who do not have an attachment to the 1989 romantic comedy.

While it is fun to see them together again, it feels somewhat inauthentic to turn a genuinely funny scene that cleverly explored Sєxual dynamics into a mayonnaise commercial. Exploring topics like faking orgasms is partly why When Harry Met Sally… still holds up today. The commercial does not take anything away from the original scene or movie, though, as When Harry Met Sally… dared to openly discuss matters that were previously avoided in movies and television series.
