The digital release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 includes eight scenes that were cut from the movie. The story of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 follows Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, who take on Shadow, Ivo Robotnik, and his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik, to stop them from destroying the world. The cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 includes Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey, Keanu Reeves, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter.

Upon its release, reviews for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 were exceptional, and the film currently has a score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes (via Rotten Tomatoes). The deleted scenes of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 include additional jokes and ongoing storylines that did not make the final cut of the movie. Even though these scenes did not make the final cut of the movie, they are still great and provide more moments for characters like Knuckles, Ivo Robotnik, Gerald Robotnik, and Agent Stone. The first deleted scene takes place near the beginning of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, before Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles get recruited by the Guardian Unit of Nations (GUN). In this scene, Knuckles raves to Maddie about how he can’t stop eating Sonic’s birthday cake. However, he’s confused by the image of a woman on the cake. He refers to her as “a gray-haired wizard,” while in reality, it’s a picture of actor Bea Arthur.

This is a callback to a joke that did make the final cut of the movie. When Sonic arrives for his surprise birthday party, he thinks the sign reads “Happy Bea Arthur Day.” As Maddie admits, the bakery was also confused, so they added a picture of The Golden Girls star Bea Arthur to the cake. This joke is more meant for the adults in the audience, rather than the kids, which is possibly why it was cut from the movie.

After Commander Walters dies in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles want to chase after the mysterious motorcycle rider. However, they first have to get past the GUN soldiers in the Chao Garden restaurant. Therefore, they wear masks from the restaurant to sneak past the guards. In this deleted scene, one GUN soldier stops them and asks for a selfie.

This scene is funny because it’s so obvious Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are under the masks. It’s practically pointless to wear the masks at all, since the rest of their bodies are so noticeable. However, the GUN soldier doesn’t notice it’s Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles under the masks at all, and simply wants a selfie that he can show to his children.

Agent Stone Saves Ivo Robotnik After Sonic 2’s Climax

Once Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles catch up with Agent Stone in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, it is revealed that Carrey’s Ivo Robotnik survived the events of Sonic 2. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 does not spend much time explaining how Ivo survived the climax of the previous movie, but this deleted scene shows Agent Stone saving him from the rubble. However, Agent Stone claims that Ivo had multiple surgeries in Mexico after breaking nearly every bone in his body.

Ivo Robotnik then humorously adds that stem cells aren’t covered by his insurance plan. This deleted scene further showcases how much Agent Stone cares for Ivo Robotnik, which is something that Sonic 3 focuses quite a bit on. However, it was probably cut because the editors felt like more details about Ivo’s journey between Sonic 2 and 3 was not needed for the story of the movie.

Ivo & Gerald Robotnik Do More Bonding

After Ivo and Gerald Robotnik meet in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, a montage is dedicated to them bonding after spending their entire lives apart. This deleted scene includes more moments of Ivo and his grandfather bonding. Firstly, Ivo is shown with a scraped knee. Instead of putting a bandage on the wound, in classic Robotnik fashion, Gerald covers his grandson’s mouth to stop him from crying.

Then, Gerald gives a boy scout version of Ivo a badge which reads “Best Grandson” before hitting his nose, prompting Ivo to knee his grandfather in the groin. Finally, Gerald turns off the light after reading Ivo a bedtime story, only to then scare his grandson with a terrifying alien-like mask. These additional moments further develop the bond that Ivo and Gerald quickly form with each other in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s next deleted scene reveals an ongoing joke that was cut entirely from the movie. In this deleted scene, Ivo Robotnik starts a live-stream right after him and his allies arrive in London. During this live-stream, it is revealed that Ivo goes by the name “Huevo Diablo” and calls his viewers “Eggheads.” This scene shows that Ivo is quite in touch with current trends on social media.

The same can’t be said for his grandfather. Ivo introduces his viewers to Gerald, who is confused about what’s happening. Meanwhile, Agent Stone loves Ivo’s live-stream and is shown constantly tapping the like ʙuттon to support his boss. This scene is quite funny, and isn’t the last time Ivo will talk to his live-stream viewers in Sonic 3’s deleted scenes.

As they sneak through the hallways of GUN HQ, they are forced to hide from two soldiers. While their suits can turn invisible, their faces will be seen. Therefore, Ivo and Gerald successfully hide behind a set of flags in the hallway.

Even though this is quite an obvious hiding spot, the GUN soldiers walk right by them. Just like the deleted scene of the GUN soldier taking a selfie with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, this scene once again proves that GUN soldiers can be quite oblivious at times. Once the soldiers pᴀss by them, Ivo and Gerald come out of their hiding spots and bicker before continuing down the hallway.

In a deleted scene from right after Ivo and Gerald Robotnik’s viral dance number in Sonic 3, it is revealed that Ivo was live-streaming the whole thing. Initially, Ivo claims that his viewers were impressed by their moves. However, one of Ivo’s fans calls Gerald a “fossil.“ Gerald quickly claps back at this viewer, saying, “If I’m a fossil, your mom’s a paleontologist, ’cause she digs me.“

Ivo and Gerald then decide to leave before they get flagged. This scene provides Gerald with quite a clever comeback, and proves that several funny moments came out of Ivo’s ongoing live-streaming joke in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. However, since the first live-streaming scene was cut, it wouldn’t have made sense to include this scene in the theatrical release of the movie.

The final deleted scene is the longest scene of the bunch, and features Ivo Robotnik once again live-streaming. This time, he is live-streaming from the space station during Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s climax. While they are charging the Eclipse Cannon, Ivo reveals that his live-stream is sponsored by an energy drink called Berserk. Ivo cuts a hilarious promo for Berserk before Gerald walks in and threatens all the viewers.

This deleted scene comes not long before Ivo decides to turn against his grandfather at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. While Ivo has been the main villain throughout the entire franchise, he betrays Gerald in Sonic 3 and helps Sonic, Shadow, Tails, and Knuckles save the world. Ivo’s actions in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 redeem some of his more villainous moments throughout the franchise.
