Omar Apollo & Pedro Pascal’s Friendship Explained — From The Corona Ad To Their God Said No Collaboration

If there’s one thing that pop culture followers love, it’s a friendship between two celebrities, and the one between Omar Apollo and Pedro Pascal has the internet buzzing. Beloved actor and the internet’s “daddy”, Pascal’s fame has continued to spread since his guest role on Game of Thrones as Oberyn Martell, and he’s found enormous success in the HBO series The Last of Us as protagonist Joel Miller. Fans were also thrilled by the announcement of him being cast as Reed Richards in the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie.

As for Apollo, the singer-songwriter took the music world by storm in 2022 with his debut album, Ivory, which featured a unique blend of pop, R&B, and soul, while utilizing both English and Spanish lyrics and lo-fi beats. Apollo also appeared opposite Daniel Craig in Luca Guadagnino’s 2024 film, Queer The pairing between Apollo and Pascal may seem unusual given their differences in background and career circles, but the two men actually have quite a lot in common, which explains why Apollo invited Pascal to collaborate in his newest creative venture.

How Pedro Pascal And Omar Apollo’s Friendship Began

They Met While Doing An Article For The New York Times

The friendship between Pedro Pascal and Omar Apollo began when Apollo was approached to do a New York Times article in 2022, and it was suggested to him that he be joined by an actor. In an interview with Apple Music, Apollo laughingly relates that his first choice was Woody Harrelson, but he later went with Pascal instead. Despite the article never being published, the two hit it off beautifully when they realized that they had a lot in common, and have been good friends ever since.

In an interview with GQ, Pascal spoke about his relationship with Apollo, saying, “Omar is a very good friend of mine. I love his music. He’s also like me, someone who grew up bilingual.” Pascal went on to say that he is happy to support Apollo in his creative endeavors as well. “I love being a friend in each other’s journeys, and uplifting whatever I can creatively, supporting whatever creative experience that he’s having as a friend, as an artist, as a Latino, as a Spanish speaker. It just means a lot to me.”

Pedro Pascal’s Contribution To Omar Apollo’s God Said No Album

Pascal Speaks On A Track Called “Pedro”

Two years after the success of Omar Apollo’s debut album, Ivory, he released his sophomore album, God Said No, to wide acclaim in 2024. One highlight of the album that earned a lot of buzz is the track “Pedro” – and yes, it features that Pedro. The track begins with a mix of Apollo’s haunting vocals, followed by a voice memo recorded by Pascal.

In the audio, Pascal describes the feeling of being “shattered” by an undisclosed event in his life.

In the audio, Pascal describes the feeling of being “shattered” by an undisclosed event in his life. Pascal then recalls being in Lucerne, Switzerland during the Christmas season at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, too worried to travel back to the United States, when he was struck by an emotional reaction:

“I remember thinking, like, the saying, ‘it brought me to my knees. And I remember just literally being kind of brought to my knees by a park bench […] And I remember asking the park bench to come alive and save me. ‘Cause I didn’t feel like there was any kind of moment past that moment. But there was. There was.”

The collaboration was inspired when Apollo had Pascal listen to another song from the album God Said No before its release. The song is called “Glow,” and it is about grief and loss, and Pascal fell in love with it immediately upon hearing it. Apollo then suggested that Pascal record a story of when he was overcome with grief, in order to add depth to “Glow.” Pascal’s spoken word track packs an extra emotional punch as an intro to “Glow,” his vulnerability shining through in his candid voice memo.

Pedro And Omar Both Love Corona

Pascal Is A Brand Ambᴀssador For Corona

By now everyone should know about Pedro Pascal’s love for Corona, the Mexican beer brand, thanks to the series of commercials that feature the famous actor. It turns out that Pascal’s motto of “embracing the fine life,” or “la vida mas fina,” is shared by his good friend, Omar Apollo, who also drinks Corona. In fact, according to Pascal, the friends have often shared a beer or two together. “He loves Corona, I’ve had Corona with him,” Pascal told GQ.

Their appreciation of the pale lager is yet another bond that the two men share, along with their Latino heritage. In his famous SAG Award acceptance speech, Pascal began by confessing, “I’m a little bit drunk,” revealing his nervousness and endearing him to the crowd. When asked about it later, Pascal told GQ that he had been drinking sH๏τs of tequila with — naturally — a Corona chaser. “I sobered up in the instant of winning,” Pascal related. “I think all the adrenaline pushed the sobriety into my system.”

Omar Apollo & Pedro Pascal Are Not Dating

Apollo Has Described Pascal As “Like Family”

As is the way of things, fame always comes with speculation and rumor, and the relationship between Omar Apollo and Pedro Pascal is no different. The two have been very public about their friendship, raising a few eyebrows and causing plenty of conjecture online about whether they are romantically involved. One particular 2023 X social media post showed Pascal and Apollo “spotted” together in New York City, resulting in many comments from users questioning the manner of their relationship.

To set the record straight, Apollo is openly gay, but Pascal prefers to keep his private life private, and has never overtly revealed his Sєxuality. He has, however, been a proud ally of the LGBTQ+ community, including offering public support of his transgender sister, Lux. In other words, no, Omar Apollo and Pedro Pascal are not a couple. Apollo himself told Highsnobiety that Pascal is “like family,” suggesting a close but ultimately platonic relationship. Yet the lack of a romance does not diminish the beauty of their friendship, or the hope of another artistic collaboration in the future.
