Love runs strong between ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine costars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. After starring alongside each other in multiple films, the two have developed a strong friendship, as evidenced by Reynolds crashing Jackman’s concert recently. Taking place at Radio City Music hall, Jackman’s performance paid tribute to his long career in musicals and musical theater, featuring songs from The Boy From Oz, Le Miserables, The Greatest Showman, and more.
Not only did Reynolds attend the concert, along with ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, but according to People, he took to the microphone during the star’s “Hugh & A” question segment. Reynolds praised the Wolverine actor, citing his humility and welcoming presence tracing all the way back to their first collaboration. He explained:
“This was the first major movie star I ever worked with, 16 or 17 years ago on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. And I was young still. I was impressionable. I was expecting going to this movie set with this guy right here, and I didn’t know, I really didn’t know what was gonna happen. […] But what I saw was just about the best thing anyone could possibly experience if you’re working your way up in the industry.”
“I saw a movie star, a capital M movie star. I saw this gentleman right here walk around that set, and just like here, he knew every single person’s name, even though he was making them up half the time. He showed a kind of courtesy and gentleness and curiosity, and he put value into every single crew member that we were working with.”
In addition to speaking at the event, Reynolds also shared an Instagram story with a pH๏τo of the stars, writing “this fella puts on a show” (via ᴅᴇᴀᴅline). He then joked that he “had no idea he could sing and dance,” but rather he “knew he could stab and grunt.” Per Reynolds, “the show is an immersive retrospective and jamboree of feeling, giggles and joy—not one dry eye in the house.” Despite his glowing praises, Reynolds didn’t give the show a perfect rating: “I give it a 4.9 stars out of 5 because I was told there’d be a car chase.“
What Ryan Reynolds’ Comments About Hugh Jackman Mean
Reynolds and Jackman have a close bond spanning two decades, which feeds into their onscreen chemistry well. It makes sense that the ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool star would come to his concert, especially after hearing him describe their friendship in his own words. Hearing that Jackman was a comfort to Reynolds when he was just starting his career also sheds light on why the actors were so excited to act alongside each other. In addition to X-Men Origins: Wolverine and ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, the duo are slated to costar in Levy’s next film, Boy Band.
Per Reynolds, he and Jackman may also reprise their MCU roles together in a future project. The actor previously explained that he has “some pitches and ideas, but none of them center on ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool,” and he “would always want ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool and Wolverine to be paired in some way.“
Our Take On Ryan Reynolds Crashing Hugh Jackman’s Concert
Despite ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool and Wolverine getting off on the wrong foot, the opposite was true for Reynolds and Jackman. After ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, their friendship has reached legendary status among fans, and the Van Wilder actor showing up to hear Jackman sing only reinforces that, Given their excellent chemistry on and off screen, Reynolds’ support of Jackman only makes the wait for their next MCU appearance feel that much longer.
