Jane Levy weighs in on whether the time is right for her character Mia to return to the Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ universe. While Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell helped establish the bloody and brutal horror franchise with the trilogy centered on the misadventures of Ash Williams, director Fede Álvarez developed a 2013 reboot of the original movie, following a new group of survivors who encounter the cursed book. In Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, Levy portrayed Mia Allen, a recovering heroin addict possessed by the Naturom Demonto.
As Levy promoted her latest feature, Atropia, at the Sundance Film Festival, she weighed in on whether the future could hold a return to the Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ franchise. Speaking to ScreenRant‘s own Grant Hermanns, she had an optimistic response to the possibility. Levy stated that she is eager to return to the franchise if the opportunity arises in the near future. Check out what she said below:
I do think it’s possible. Like, yes, I would do it if they were like, right now. It’s more like whether they’re gonna do it or not, you know? I kind of feel like they must, right? The fans are there. So, I think I would say not like you can count on it, but I think more likely than not.
What Levy’s Response Could Mean For Mia’s Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Future
One Character Retiring Could Pave The Way For Her Return
Though Mia has not made any movie appearances within the Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ franchise after her debut in the 2013 reboot, the character is still present within the franchise. After nine years, Mia appeared as a DLC character for Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ: The Video Game in 2022. As such, the character is still prominent in the franchise’s recent media.
Campbell’s involvement in the franchise going forward could open up an opportunity for Mia to return. While Campbell is open to reprising the role of Ash for vocal performances, as seen through his Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Rise cameo, the actor stated in 2021 that he will no longer physically portray the character. As such, if future Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ movies hope to bring back an existing protagonist, Mia could be a prime candidate whom many longtime viewers would love to see return.
Our Take On Levy’s Potential Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Return
The Franchise Has Risen Once More
Tonally closer to the original movie than Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ 2 and Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ: Army of Darkness, Álvarez’s 2013 remake had its own strong following. With a grittier and more emotional story hook, and a bloodier and more visceral horror, the movie has found its audience in the years since its release, with Mia becoming a fondly remembered protagonist. When paired with Álvarez’ Alien: Romulus, a 2024 release that’s reignited interest in the director’s filmography, his Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ has only seen appreciation for it grow.
The next Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ movie currently in development is тιтled Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Burn, and will be directed by Sébastien Vaniček.
Furthermore, with few attempts to follow up Mia’s story so far, there is still plenty of freedom regarding where to take her character. After the success of Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Rise, the future of the Evil ᴅᴇᴀᴅ franchise is bright, and it’s clear that Levy is keen to be a part of it. It seems pretty likely that she could return in a future outing and thus come to represent where the franchise is going next.
