Bottoms Writer & Star Rachel Sennott Gives Encouraging Update On Potential Ayo Edebiri Reunion After Movie’s 91% RT Score

Rachel Sennott, co-writer and star of Bottoms, shared an optimistic update on the possibility of reuniting with co-star Ayo Edebiri for future projects. Released in 2023, Bottoms follows two unpopular best friends, PJ and Josie, who start a high school fight club to meet girls and lose their virginity, only to find themselves in over their heads when the popular students begin beating each other up in the name of self-defense. The film stars Sennott and Edebiri alongside Ruby Cruz, Havana Rose Liu, Nicholas Galitzine, and Marshawn Lynch. Bottoms had positive reviews, and earned a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score.

During a recent interview for Bunnylovr at the Sundance Film Festival with ScreenRant‘s Tatiana Hullender, Sennott spoke about her ongoing work in the writers’ room for an upcoming show. While details about the aforementioned show are under wraps, she mentioned the idea of collaborating with Edebiri again, suggesting that the two are exploring opportunities for future creative partnerships. Check out her comments below:

I know! I know. Hey, look, there’s a lot. We’re working on a lot. Unfortunately, writing takes forever. Writing is the slowest thing of everything, and no one knows when you’re doing it. I’m like, “I swear to God, I’m writing. I promise!”

I’m in the writers’ room right now working on my show. But it takes so long, and you have to think so much. So, we need to find 100% our next thing. I just want to keep working with my friends.

What This Means For Sennott and Edebiri’s Future Collaborations

Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri Projects May Come to Fruition

Sennott’s statement about working with Ayo Edebiri again comes 2 years after their collaboration on Bottoms, which attributes its success to its witty script, diverse cast, and bold humor. However, with both Sennott and Edebiri focusing on their respective current projects, a Bottoms sequel might not be on the horizon just yet. At this time, Sennott is working on her undisclosed HBO series, along with Bunnylovr, which is set for theatrical release in 2025 following its Sundance premiere. As for Edebiri’s movies and television shows, she is working on upcoming projects such as After the Hunt, Opus, and Ella McCay.

In the entertainment industry, collaborations between rising stars like Sennott and Edebiri are becoming increasingly valuable. Both have proven their comedic chops in recent years, and even collaborated together on specials like Ayo and Rachel are Single (2020). Given their friendship, those who have enjoyed Bottoms and their other projects would undoubtedly welcome a new on-screen opportunity for them.
