“Hey, We Get To Use That Now”: Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Includes A Jurᴀssic Park Moment The Original Movie Cut For Time

Jurᴀssic World Rebirth screenwriter David Koepp reveals that a sequence from the original Michael Crichton Jurᴀssic Park book is included in the upcoming movie after being cut from Steven Spielberg’s 1993 adaptation. Taking place after the events of 2022’s Jurᴀssic World Dominion, Jurᴀssic World Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, the leader of a mission into dino-infested territory to recover DNA for a medical breakthrough. The film hails from director Gareth Edwards, with Koepp returning as writer after penning the franchise’s first two installments for Steven Spielberg.

During a recent interview with Variety, Koepp reveals that Jurᴀssic World Rebirth includes one sequence that didn’t make it into the original movie after being cut for time. While he doesn’t reveal what the sequence in question is, he does tease that rereading Crichton’s Jurᴀssic Park novels was part of his preparation for penning this new installment. Check out Koepp’s comment below:

No. I reread the two novels to get myself back in that mode though. We did take some things from them. There was a sequence from the first novel that we’d always wanted in the original movie, but didn’t have room for. We were like, “Hey, we get to use that now.” But just to get back in that head space 30 years later — is it still fun? And the answer is yes, it still really is. Dinosaurs are still fun.

What The Jurᴀssic Park Sequence Means For Jurᴀssic World Rebirth

Which Michael Crichton Sequences Could Be Included?

Sam Neill as Dr Alan Grant in the jungle in Jurᴀssic Park 3

Jurᴀssic Park is a faithful adaptation of Crichton’s novel in many ways, but there are a number of elements from the book that weren’t included in Spielberg’s film. The movie, for example, does away with much of the scientific dialogue from the book, but there are entire sequences that also didn’t make the cut. One sequence that didn’t make it in, for example, features escaped dinosaurs attacking the citizens of Costa Rica, including a newborn baby.

Other sequences that Koepp could be referring to include Dr. Alan Grant examining a dinosaur breeding site; an intense encounter aboard the park’s Jungle River Cruise ride; Lex, Tim, and Dr. Grant’s escape from a T-rex aboard a raft; the death of John Hammond; and the destruction of Isla Nublar. Though Sam Neill and other original Jurᴀssic Park actors aren’t reprising their roles as part of the Jurᴀssic World Rebirth cast, any number of these sequences could be repurposed to include different characters.

Other actors set to appear in Jurᴀssic World Rebirth include: Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali, Rupert Friend, Ed Skrein, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Luna Blaise.

Our Take On Koepp’s Jurᴀssic World Rebirth Tease

It’s Time For A Return To The Franchise’s Roots

After the world-altering Jurᴀssic World Dominion ending, the upcoming installment seemingly takes a back-to-basics approach with the franchise. Edwards recently told Empire that Rebirth goes back to what [he] loves about the original,” and he’s also likened the movie to other early Spielberg classics. Koepp’s latest reveal about the inclusion of a Jurᴀssic Park sequence, then, tracks with the larger approach that’s being taken with the movie.

Jurᴀssic World Dominion reviews were generally negative from critics, and the response to Jurᴀssic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) was mixed. The upcoming installment, with its return to what made the original so beloved, could end up breaking this lackluster critical trend. Though many questions remain about Jurᴀssic World Rebirth, Koepp’s latest tease only makes the movie even more exciting.
