Scary Movie 6 will mark the return of the beloved horror movie spoof series, and there is already a ton of exciting news about the latest comedy. Debuting in 2000 and created by the Wayans family, Scary Movie took aim at the most popular horror films of the time and poked fun at many of the tropes of the genre. Hits like Scream, The Blair Witch Project, and I Know What You Did Last Summer were lambasted with hilarious low-brow humor, and Scary Movie kicked off a spoof movie trend that continued throughout the Aughts.
Though critics were cold toward it, Scary Movie was a bona fide blockbuster and grossed nearly $300 million against a budget of $20 million (via Box Office Mojo). Sequels were produced across the rest of the 2000s and though every Scary Movie entry had bright spots, they generally faded in quality until the lackluster release of 2013’s Scary Movie 5. To make matters worse, Scary Movie inspired a host of other spoof movies that diluted the genre until it became a parody of itself. Now, Scary Movie 6 is in the works and promises to skewer modern horror.

Scary Movie 6 Cast Details
A Trio Of Wayans Will Star
Even though the full cast of Scary Movie 6 remains unknown, it has been confirmed that the brains behind the original film will return. Marlon and Shawn Wayans helped write the original Scary Movie in 2000, and they will return to the project as part of the cast. It’s unclear what level of creative input they will have, but their unique brand of humor is what made those Aughts classics so memorable. Keenan Ivory Wayans had a small role in Scary Movie, but he is most remembered for directing the film. He is set to return for Scary Movie 6, though it’s unclear if he will be directing or merely acting.
Other Scary Movie alums could also return for Scary Movie 6, most notably Anna Faris who appeared as Cindy Campbell in the first four movies. Likewise, Regina Hall appeared alongside Faris as Brenda Meeks in all but the fifth installment in the franchise.

What Movies Will Scary Movie 6 Parody?
There Is A Wealth Of Modern Films To Spoof
The advancements in the genre present a tricky challenge for the Scary Movie reboot, largely because spoofs helped make tropes seem even more pᴀsse, and horror movies of the 2020s have largely eschewed them.
One of the biggest drawing factors for the Scary Movie franchise was that it went after nearly every popular horror movie of its time, and mercilessly parodied them. Along with that, the series notably poked fun at common horror tropes that dominated respective eras like the 1990s and 2000s. With over a decade without an entry in the spoof series, there is a wealth of horror movies that fans want to see Scary Movie parody. The 2010s and early 2020s have ushered in a new era for horror, and that era isn’t immune to humorous satire.
High-concept horror movies like Ari Aster’s Hereditary and Midsommar seem like easy targets because of their self-serious and heady themes and modern-day horror icons like M3GAN also seem highly spoofable. The advancements in the genre present a tricky challenge for Scary Movie 6, largely because spoofs helped make tropes seem even more pᴀssé, and horror movies of the 2020s have largely eschewed them. A modern approach might be the best way to make the classic comedy franchise viable again.
