Ryan Gosling In Talks To Star In Shawn Levy’s New Star Wars Movie, Potentially Set To Start Filming This Year

Actor Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talks to star in an upcoming Star Wars movie. While The Mandalorian & Grogu is the closest movie set to release in 2026 starring Pedro Pascal with director Jon Favreau, multiple Star Wars movies are currently in development. Now, it seems as though one such project is trying to score one of Hollywood’s biggest stars.

First reported by THR, Ryan Gosling is reportedly in talks to star in a Star Wars movie from director Shawn Levy (The Adam Project, ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine). Likewise, it’s being reported that the movie could start filming as early as this year. Per THR:

“If a deal makes, the project would continue to fly like the Millennium Falcon, becoming not only Levy’s next movie but also the next Star Wars movie to go into production, with cameras potentially rolling this fall.”

The report has since been corroborated by both Variety and ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, as well as notable scoopers such as Jeff Sneider.

This Comes Straight After Rumors Claiming Levy’s Film Will Start Shooting This Year

Reports Seem Likely

The new reports regarding Lucasfilm’s talks with Gosling follow recent rumors from yesterday that Levy’s Star Wars movie is aiming to start shooting this fall (per Daniel Richtman). As such, that does support the idea that talent is actively being searched for now for the project to be ready for principal pH๏τography. However, it’s worth noting that the reports only say that Gosling is currently in talks, meaning he hasn’t yet been officially cast in a role.

Details are pretty scarce regarding Levy’s Star Wars movie, which has been in development since 2022 with writer Jonathan Tropper who worked with Levy on The Adam Project for Netflix. The only predominant report is that it’s meant to be a standalone film, unconnected to the main Skywalker saga. However, one can imagine that more concrete news and perhaps even official casting will be revealed in April at Lucasfim’s Star Wars Celebration in Japan.

Our Take On Ryan Gosling’s Potential Star Wars Role

Some Major Star Power With Sci-Fi Experience

Ryan Gosling’s casting would be pretty unique for Star Wars which doesn’t typically go for A-listers. However, Gosling was reportedly in the running for Kylo Ren a decade prior. It’s also worth noting that the actor is no stranger to big-budget franchise films, nor sci-fi given Gosling’s role in Blade Runner 2049 alongside none other than Harrison Ford (Han Solo himself). As such, Ryan Gosling is certainly an exciting and intriguing choice, offering some major star power Star Wars arguably needs right now as it prepares to finally return to theaters, having been on a long hiatus since 2019 which The Mandalorian & Grogu will finally break in 2026.
