Stan recently won the 2025 Golden Globe for Best Actor, Comedy or Musical for his lead performance as Edward in A Different Man. Sebastian Stan’s A Different Man Is Now Streaming On Max – What The Movie Is About

A Different Man is a dark comedy and metaphysical mind-bender

A Different Man is a dark comedy and metaphysical mind-bender that is considered one of 2024’s best films. Stan plays Edward, a socially awkward aspiring actor with a disfigured facial condition caused by neurofibromatosis. Edward falls for a playwright named Ingrid (Reinsve) but is too shy to make a move. He eventually gets a drastic medical procedure that cures him of his condition, only to discover years later that Ingrid has written a play about him. After his procedure, Edward changed his name to Guy Moratz and claimed that Edward died by suicide.

Critics praise A Different Man for its originality and complexity. Daniel Feinberg of The Hollywood Reporter calls A Different Man, “An amusing and thought-provoking face-off.” Jocelyn Noveck of The ᴀssociated Press writes, “It’s an absorbing ride, and Schimberg works with confidence and brio. On top of that his cast is so darned good, you want the story to go on and on.” On the other hand, Adrain Horton of The Guardian writes in her “Rotten” review, “A Different Man is a slog, made worse by the fact that it seems to mistake darkness for insight.”

Sebastian Stan Won A Golden Globe For His Performance In A Different Man – Is An Oscar Nomination Next?

He is currently projected to round out the 5 Best Actor nominees

As it currently stands, Stan is viewed as either 5th or 6th in the rankings of projected Best Actor Oscar nominees, which certainly makes him a legitimate contender. His 2025 Golden Globe win will certainly not be ignored by the Academy, although a limited pool of just five nominees makes it a very тιԍнт race. Stan’s performance in A Different Man will either just get in for a nomination or just miss it most likely. With the Oscar nominations being announced on Thursday, January 23, Stan is set to compete with the likes of fellow Golden Globe winner Adrien Brody, A Complete Unknown’s Timothée Chalamet, Conclave’s Ralph Fiennes, and Sing Sing’s Colman Domingo.
