Paddington 3 arrived in 2025, and Paddington In Peru makes the bear with the big red hat’s movie franchise into a globe-trotting trilogy. The Paddington films have rapidly become one of the most beloved family movie franchises of the 21st century. Based on a series of books by Michael Bond, the screen adventures of the marmalade-loving bear who gently espouses decency and kindness while dealing with a harsh world have been a balm for tough times over the past decade.
The original Paddington was released in 2014 to an unsuspecting public, quickly becoming a critical darling and a global box office hit. The sequel that followed in 2018 became famous for dethroning Citizen Kane on Rotten Tomatoes. Through several delays and news that director Paul King would not be returning to the franchise, Paddington in Peru was finally announced with director Dougal Wilson taking over directorial duties. When the highly-anticipated threequel arrived in 2025, Paddington in Peru didn’t disappoint.

Paddington In Peru Box Office & Critical Reception
A Box Office Smash In The UK & Another Critical Darling
The critical performance of the Paddington franchise is legendary, and Padington in Peru continues that trend. Though it is the lowest-rated movie in the trilogy on Rotten Tomatoes, it still managed a score above 90%. While Screen Rant noted that the third film wasn’t as good as its predecessors, it was a matter of splitting hairs when it came to critiquing the sequel. The Guardian had more to say, docking the movie points for its overcooked premise, which takes away from the beautiful simplicity of the first two. Nevertheless, Paddington in Peru is still perfect for the target audience.
As for the box office, Paddington in Peru was already a box office smash before it was released to an audience in North America. Domestically (that being the UK), Paddington’s latest romp scored an impressive $72 million (via Box Office Mojo) and is one of the biggest openings in the country’s history. The movie will certainly add to its gross abroad, and has already justified the development of Paddington 4.

Paddington In Peru Cast Details
Ben Whishaw Voices Paddington
The Paddington 3 cast is a mix of familiar and new faces (or voices in some cases). Ben Whishaw returned to voice Paddington, and the Brown family also returned en mᴀsse. This means Hugh Bonneville came back as Henry Brown along with Madeline Harris as Judy and Samuel Joslin as Jonathan. There is, however, a cast change in Paddington in Peru. Sally Hawkins did not return as Mary Brown, and Emily Mortimer took over the role. Due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, Rachel Zegler had to drop out of the role of Carla Tous and Gina Cabot took over the role instead.
Antonio Banderas joined the cast as the riverboat captain Hunter Cabot, Gina’s father. Oscar winner Olivia Colman appeared in Paddington 3 as The Reverend Mother who runs a retirement home for bears. She is the newest Paddington villain following memorable turns from Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant in the first two movies.

Paddington In Peru Trailer
Watch The Full Trailers Below
As promised, the full trailer for Paddington in Peru shows the lovable bear taking a trip back to his roots as he visits the South American nation with the Brown family. However, the trip isn’t all fun and games as he encounters a Reverend Mother out to get him and even stumbles across a mystery as Aunt Lucy goes missing while on a quest in the jungle. Despite the high-stakes adventure for Paddington, his third cinematic outing clearly still makes time for more of the marmalade-loving ursine’s quirky hijinks.
In anticipation of the movie’s January release, another trailer for Paddington in Peru was revealed in October 2024. Opening with a recap of Paddington’s origins, the trailer then reveals that Paddington’s Aunt Lucy has gone missing in Peru, and he urges the Brown family to help him make the trip. Once there, they charter a boat on the Amazon, and get into a myriad of adventures in the dense rainforest.
Paddington In Peru Ending & Spoilers
Paddington Learns The Truth About His Family
Perhaps redeeming itself for a bit of its over-the-top action, the third film’s ending puts the focus squarely on family (as the franchise always has), and delivers a truly heartwarming conclusion to this chapter in Paddington’s life.
As was the case with the previous two installments, the ending of Paddington in Peru is about so much more than the little bear’s whimsical adventures. The finale opens up new horizons for Paddington, but also gives him an incredibly difficult choice to make. Another Sequel Is Already Confirmed
Besides wrapping up the little bear’s time in Darkest Peru, Paddington in Peru also setup another sequel. The movie’s two post-credits sequences serve different purposes, with the first merely being a cute scene and the second teasing the story direction for Paddington 4. A certain villain is shown in the post-credits scene, and that formerly nefarious character could be back to plot revenge against Paddington, the Browns, and even Paddington’s Peruvian relatives.
