Giancarlo Esposito Teases His MCU Future After Upcoming Captain America: Brave New World Debut

Captain America: Brave New World star Giancarlo Esposito teases what future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects may do with his character. After many years of being fan-cast to join the MCU timeline, Esposito is making his debut in the franchise as part of the Captain America: Brave New World cast. With the film being less than a month out from its release, Esposito is already giving an idea of what may be next for Sidewinder after the events of Captain America: Brave New World.

In a new interview with ABC, Esposito chatted about boarding the MCU franchise in Captain America: Brave New World. While the MCU will re-imagine Sidewinder, Esposito teased how future MCU movies may get closer to “that serpent persona,” as he stated the following:

Part of the incorporation of Sidewinder’s colors I brought into the costume that I’m wearing. I’m hoping that it gives them inspiration in movies to come that will allow me to take on more of that serpent persona. You’ve never seen me play a character like this. This guy knows how to use a rifle, a pistol, knives, [he is] very, very physical, active with his physicality, punches, kicks, all that.

What Giancarlo Esposito’s MCU Future Comments Mean For Sidewinder

With Sidewinder’s Serpent Society history, there are many directions for the MCU timeline to take him, especially after Esposito gives the world a taste of his player in Captain America: Brave New World. Even if Sidewinder may be a more obscure character from the Marvel Comics canon, the MCU has always been known for its reinventions of various heroes and villains, while also giving them elevated roles in the world of live-action. From Esposito’s latest comments, it’s clear that will definitely be the case for Sidewinder, too.

Esposito has already given a big tease about Sidewinder’s MCU future, having said that there will be an MCU series for his character. Marvel Studios hasn’t announced if it is meant to be a Sidewinder solo series or if they are going to have him showing up in one of the shows that are coming up in Phases 5 or 6. It’s likely that Esposito will have a crucial role in someone else’s MCU TV show rather than Disney+ doing a Sidewinder solo project unless Captain America: Brave New World is setting him in such a way that it would justify him having his own series.

Seth Voelker's Sidewinder with his gun in Captain America Brave New World

It’s clear from Esposito’s excitement about Captain America: Brave New World and beyond that he is thrilled about what Marvel Studios is doing with Sidewinder and what is coming up for him, whether it is more MCU films or TV shows. With a talented actor like Esposito now part of the MCU, time will tell what other characters will have to deal with him as he becomes one of the franchise’s newest foes. But before they can get to that point, fans will have to catch his introduction in Captain America: Brave New World next month.
