Back in Action follows Matt and Emily — two retired spies masquerading as average parents, but everything changes when their old enemies start coming after them. The two are forced to go on the run and bring their kids with them, creating a perfect blend of exciting action scenes and funny family-centered moments. After finally exposing the unexpected villain, Back in Action‘s ending leaves Matt and Emily’s future open for another return to their old lives. Until more information about a sequel is announced, there is one surprisingly similar Jamie Foxx movie that is the perfect next watch.
Day Shift Is Another Great Jamie Foxx Netflix Action Movie To Watch After Back In Action

Foxx’s 2022 movie Day Shift sees him ᴀssume the role of Bud Jablonski, a dedicated father and working-class man. While his family believes that he is a pool cleaner, just like Matt in Back in Action, Bud has a secret idenтιтy. In reality, Bud is a vampire hunter who decides to rejoin the vampire hunters’ union in order to help finance his daughter’s schooling. By choosing to return to this job, Bud is paired with a much stricter partner, though the two eventually grow to get along and ultimately work together against the enemy at the end of the film.
Despite both being action movies, Foxx portrays a man who is, at his core, focused on his family and keeping them safe.
Though Back in Action has a very different plot than Day Shift, Foxx’s similar roles in each make them great to watch together. The spy aspects of Back in Action mean that Foxx is showing off his character’s espionage skills, whereas in Day Shift, the scarier aspects of vampire hunting mean that it is slightly more bloody. However, both films feature plenty of laughs and entertaining performances.
Will Day Shift 2 Ever Happen On Netflix?
Nothing Has Been Confirmed Yet
So far, Netflix has not confirmed anything about a sequel to Day Shift. However, the director, J. J. Perry, has expressed his interest in continuing the story. In 2023, Perry noted that the sequel, Night Shift, could bring back the original characters and see them team up to defeat new enemies. It also seems that both Jamie Foxx and his costar Dave Franco would be interested in coming back for a new story, and new action, as well.
Since nothing has been announced since summer 2023, Day Shift 2 currently seems unlikely, but it is impossible to rule anything out. Based on the success of both Day Shift and Back in Action, it could make sense for at least one of them to get a sequel from Netflix at some point in the future. Though it is too soon to tell if and when that could happen, for now, Day Shift and Back in Action, along with Foxx’s performance in each, are a great pairing.
