The Accountant 2 First Image Reunites Ben Affleck & Jon Bernthal, 9 Years After The Original Defied Box Office Expectations

The first image from The Accountant 2 has arrived. The movie is a sequel to Ben Affleck’s 2016 action-thriller, in which he played Christian Wolff, an accountant with autism who works for high-profile criminals. The upcoming Accountant 2 reteams Affleck with director Gavin O’Connor and screenwriter Bill Dubuque. It follows Wolff being approached by Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson, also returning) to help solve a murder, which lands them in H๏τ water as various enemies attempt to kill them along the way.

As part of their announcement that The Accountant 2 will premiere at the South by Southwest film festival on March 8, Amazon MGM Studios has shared a first-look image from the movie. The image shows Affleck back in character as Christian Wolff, having what appears to be a clandestine meeting near a moonlit pool. Joining him is Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Christian’s younger brother Braxton “Brax” Wolff. Check out the full-size image below:

What This Means For The Accountant 2

The Movie Features Many Familiar Faces

It is unclear at exactly what point in the story that this image takes place. However, it highlights the fact that, even though the movie will be premiering eight years after the debut of the original movie, the sequel will feature quite a few returning Accountant characters. Although the brothers were adversaries during the events of the original movie, they made up by the end, and it seems that their more familial dynamic may have stuck throughout the ensuing years, considering the fact that their clandestine meeting appears to be peaceful.

The roster of returning characters in The Accountant 2 also includes Ray King (J.K. Simmons), though Anna Kendrick will not be reprising her role as Dana Cummings.

The release of this first-look image, along with the announcement of the movie’s film festival premiere, also indicates that the publicity campaign for the Ben Affleck movie has officially begun. This likely means that quite a few updates on the movie will arrive in the coming weeks as its April 25 wide release debut approaches. This could potentially include further first-look images as well as a teaser trailer before very long.

Our Take On The Account 2 Image

Many Details Are Still Under Wraps

It is likely intentional that the new Accountant 2 image does not give much away about the plot of the movie. Because it comes so far ahead of the movie’s release, there are still many details that need to be kept under wraps to avoid prematurely spoiling what is sure to be a movie filled with twists and turns just like the original. However, this glimpse at the returning cast showcases the fact that the filmmakers have not forgotten about what helped the original movie connect with audiences in the first place and are keeping those elements front and center.
