Is Acrimony 2 Happening? Everything We Know About A Sequel

Acrimony 2 is the long-hoped-for sequel to Tyler Perry’s Acrimony, and fans have been patiently waiting to hear the release date for the next chapter. One of Tyler Perry’s non-Madea movies, Acrimony follows a successful woman, Melinda Moore Gayle (Taraji P. Henson), whose relationship with her inventor husband, Robert (Lyriq Bent) falls apart due to her jealousies, his infidelity, and his lack of professional drive. However, once Robert’s inventing pays off, Melinda resolves to get his money, and no method is too illegal or immoral.

For those who enjoyed Perry’s Mea Culpa, Acrimony provides the same sizzling romance and soapy thrills that many of Perry’s most notable productions are known for. With Taraji P. Henson leading, Acrimony has plenty of bite and twisting turns to keep audiences invested until the action-packed finale. Though the first movie seemed like it closed the book on the story, there’s always a chance for Perry to return to one of his projects. He’s been doing it with Madea for years, so Acrimony 2 isn’t out of the question.

There Have Been Several Fake Trailers Made For Acrimony 2

While there have been plenty of fake trailers, like from @ScottMarcal, and announcements, like from @QueeenShanghai, for Acrimony 2, there have been no official announcements about a sequel. These fake videos and posters, often made using AI, have recently been making rounds on the internet, stirring up interest and causing a lot of disappointment.

Acrimony 2 Is Not Confirmed

Tyler Perry Appears To Have His Focus On Other Areas

Melinda Moore Gayle (Taraji P. Henson) crying and holding roses and a note in Acrimony.

As it’s been nearly seven years since the first Acrimony, it’s more than likely that the movie will remain a stand-alone film, unless Tyler Perry suddenly decides to return to the film. Since Acrimony, Perry has directed eight movies, produced and directed 10 TV shows, and has been involved at some level in many more. Perry has no shortage of stories to attend to and create. The chances that he decides to return to Acrimony over any of his other projects, or instead of creating something new, seem very low.

Acrimony 2 Presumptive Cast & Story

A Sequel Would Be Difficult Without Taraji P. Henson

The end of Acrimony effectively ensures Melinda Moore is not involved in any future films, and losing Taraji P. Henson from the cast would leave a gaping hole in the movie, considering she is arguably the best part of the film. The two other main characters could certainly return, however, and the new film could star Lyriq Bent as Robert Gayle and Crystle Stewart as Diana Wells. Other characters who could return include Ptosha Storey as Brenda Moore and Jazmyn Simon as June Moore.

Possible Acrimony 2 Cast & Characters

Actor

Role

Lyriq Bent

Robert Gayle

Crystle Stewart

Diana Wells

Ptosha Storey

Brenda Moore

Jazmyn Simon

June Moore

Despite the finality of the Acrimony ending, there are still plenty of directions Acrimony 2 could take its storyline. Melinda’s sisters, Brenda and June, are still alive and though they eventually came to realize how unhinged their sister was, they still may not take too kindly to her death, and could possibly blame Robert and Diana for killing her. If Tyler Perry wants to do Acrimony 2, he’s going to be able to think of something. The question is whether he wants to do it at all. Until then, fans can forget about a release date or any other news.
