Scary Movie Reboot Sets 2026 Release Date

With the Scary Movie franchise set to return from the grave, a new release date has been given for the upcoming reboot of the horror parody movie series. The comedy began with the eponymous 2000 movie, which spoofed a selection of recent horror features, including Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Halloween, The Shining, and several surprising non-horror features. The Scary Movie franchise spawned four more sequels, but the Wayans Brothers confirmed the development of a reboot in 2024.

Though production has yet to kick off on the next installment in the Scary Movie franchise, Marlon Wayans took to Instagram to confirm the release date. He confirmed that the Scary Movie reboot is currently slated for release on June 12, 2026. Scary Movie 5 was released in 2013, which marks a thirteen-year gap between the movies in the franchise. What Does This Mean For The Scary Movie Reboot?

Big Production Updates Are Yet To Come

While production for the Scary Movie revival might have slipped from its ᴀssumed late 2024 filming kick-off, the new update is a positive development for the film. By slating the movie for early 2026, filming will likely begin sometime this year to guarantee its pre-production will wrap so it can make its release date. As such, casting news may not be too far behind.

While many older stars are keen to return, only one character is confirmed to return. The hapless Ghostface is confirmed to return, with original actor Dave Sheridan hinting that the movie will follow the example of 2022’s Scream legacy structure. As such, familiar faces and mainstays such as Anna Faris and Regina Hall may return for the first time since Scary Movie 4. However, this could also mean that a new generation may be involved in this installment.

Our Thoughts On The Scary Movie Reboot Update

The Series Has Had A Renewed Appreciation

While the Scary Movie franchise saw fluctuating returns that ultimately would diminish with its later installments, there is still anticipation about the Wayan Brothers reviving the franchise. The first few movies have gathered a strong cult following despite the series’ dormancy, as social media allowed audiences to share their favorite moments online.

While elements of the franchise haven’t aged well, its absurd and funnier clips have audiences eager to see the Wayans revive Scary Movie for a new generation, turning its attention to the changing horror and Hollywood landscape. With an official release date now set, cinemagoers will be counting down until horror’s worst masked killer descends onto theaters once more.
