“It’s Gonna Be A Nice Treat”: Sebastian Stan Addresses What Marvel Fans Can Expect From Thunderbolts*

Thunderbolts* actor Sebastian Stan opened up about what sets the film apart from other Marvel Cinematic Universe outings. The film features a team of Marvel antiheroes, including Ghost, the Winter Soldier, Red Guardian, U.S. Agent, and Yelena Belova. Thunderbolts* also stars a hugely talented cast of actors, including Stan, Florence Pugh, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and David Harbour, among others.

Stan, in an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, discussed how the Thunderbolts differ from other Marvel properties, saying: “We’re really a group all on our own, you know, on our own island, so to speak.” He then heaped praise onto his costars in the film: “Wyatt Russell and David Harbour are some of the funniest people. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is amazing… Florence Pugh.” The actor continued by sharing his excitement “about what people are going to say” about Thunderbolts*, which he said will “be a nice treat.

What Sebastian Stan’s Comments Mean For Thunderbolts*

Thunderbolts* has largely been spun as “Marvel’s Suicide Squad,” but Stan’s comments paint the film in a different light. The actor teased that this team would bring a different energy to the MCU, which may be a welcome change of pace from the franchise’s more lighthearted offerings. Alternatively, Stan emphasized the film’s humor, meaning that the film may be more comedic in nature or that the humor could be a bit edgier.

Stan previously likened the film to the 1980s hit film, The Breakfast Club, due to the “chemistry” of the cast. Moreover, he praised how “real” the film is, both in terms of its vibe and its execution. Per Stan, Marvel really wanted this to have its own” vibe, and “there were many things in the movie that were actually done practically.” Between the lack of extensive CGI and the natural chemistry between the cast, Thunderbolts* may be aiming for a more authentic, grounded vibe, or at least, as grounded as a superhero film can be.

Our Take On Sebastian Stan’s Thunderbolts* Comments

Thunderbolts team in a lift in Thunderbolts*

Stan’s repeated praises of the cast and comedy of Thunderbolts* paint the picture of a fun, action-packed ride with fun characters.Thunderbolts* is an unusual project for Marvel to take on, especially as – ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine aside – many of the studio’s more recent films have been poorly received. However, there was a point when Guardians of the Galaxy seemed like a weird choice for the MCU, only to now be one of the franchise’s most popular properties. If Stan’s comments about Thunderbolts* ring true, the film might just be Marvel’s next big sleeper hit.
