The film depicts the complex relationship between Fitzgerald’s protagonist and Kyle Gallner’s character (referred to only as “The Demon”), as the timeline jumps back and forth to reveal aspects of their backstories that completely reframe the narrative. It’s a brilliantly inventive film, and one that consistently keeps the audience on their toes.

Beyond the ambitious storytelling, Strange Darling also benefits from an outstanding lead performance from Willa Fitzgerald. Reacher has suffered following Roscoe’s exit, and it’s possible that Fitzgerald was the magic ingredient that made that first season so much fun to watch. If Reacher wants to get back to that same standard, Roscoe could be the missing link.
