After many years of rumors and false starts, The Goonies‘ long-awaited sequel may finally be on a positive development track. Richard Donner’s 1985 classic saw a group of kids uncover the treasure map of a long-lost pirate captain, setting them on a quest to find it while avoiding the grip of a ruthless crime family. Columbus has previously been reported to have been part of discussions with Donner, executive producer and fellow writer Steven Spielberg, and Lauren Schuller Donner to develop a sequel, as revealed during a reunion event in 2020.

Quan is having a continued renaissance of his career following his award-winning role in 2022’s Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, while Brolin, Astin, and Plimpton have had continued success. On the other hand, Cohen retired from acting and became an entertainment lawyer. Furthermore, Feldman has previously stated that their return would be dependent on Donner’s involvement, making their reprisal difficult to predict following the director’s pᴀssing in 2021.
