Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson & Jon Voight Named Hollywood Ambᴀssadors By Donald Trump, Gibson Says He Is “Surprised” By Announcement: “Nevertheless, I Heed The Call”

Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson, and Jon Voight have been named Hollywood ambᴀssadors by the United States President-elect Donald Trump, seemingly without them knowing. Stallone, Gibson, and Voight have had major roles throughout their time as actors and filmmakers, bringing to life plenty of classic movies while continuing to work in their craft to this day. This includes Stallone’s Tulsa King season 3 that’s in development, Gibson’s upcoming The Pᴀssion of the Christ sequel, and Voight’s recent role as Viktor Petrovich in the biopic Regan.

Now, Variety reports that Stallone, Gibson, and Voight have been named “Special Ambᴀssadors” to Hollywood by Trump via his social media platform Truth Social. The President-elect stated that he was unhappy with the current state of the big-budget film industry, aiming for the three actors to be the faces of Hollywood under his presidency. He claimed they will usher in “The Golden Age of Hollywood” because of their new roles:

It is my honor to announce Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, to be Special Ambᴀssadors to a great but very troubled place, Hollywood, California. They will serve as Special Envoys to me for the purpose of bringing Hollywood, which has lost much business over the last four years to Foreign Countries, BACK—BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE! These three very talented people will be my eyes and ears, and I will get done what they suggest. It will again be, like The United States of America itself, The Golden Age of Hollywood!

Following the announcement, Gibson offered a statement indicating he did not know about the role ahead of time, but that he would “give any help and insight” he could in the new role. Check out what Gibson had to say about the announcement below:

I got the tweet at the same time as all of you and was just as surprised. Nevertheless, I heed the call. My duty as a citizen is to give any help and insight I can. Any chance the position comes with an Ambᴀssador’s residence?

What Trump’s Hollywood Ambᴀssadors Mean For The Industry’s Future

It’s Unclear What Their Roles Are Going To Be

Trump’s announcement did not come with any specific information about how his chosen actors will be ushering in a new era for Hollywood, nor what resources they’ll be working with. However, all three actors have praised Trump in statements before, each of them endorsing him during his 2024 election campaign. Even so, it doesn’t appear any of them were part of his inner circle, given how the news came as a surprise to Gibson. Based on the actor and filmmaker’s reaction, it’s unclear if either Stallone or Voight also knew about the decision he made.

Given the lack of information, Trump may want movies starring Gibson, Stallone, and Voight to push conservative values, given all four figures appear to have similar belief systems. Since one actor has already agreed to the call to action, despite not knowing specific details, statements will likely arrive soon from the other two about their decisions. This news also comes in the wake of the Trump biopic The Apprentice getting more attention during the awards season, tying his image closer to Hollywood in the process.

Sebastian Stan was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role as Trump in The Apprentice.

The President-Elect Seems Intent On Changing The Movie Industry

Given his choice to promote three conservative actors as his “Hollywood Ambᴀssadors,” it appears Trump wants to spend his next four years in office pushing for his party’s views to appear in cinema. While there’s no word yet on what kind of governmental resources would be allocated for such a project, it seems he’s intent on supporting these three in some official capacity. However, with the announcement coming despite the actors not being aware of their new roles, his plans are clearly a work-in-progress, whatever they may be.
