New Video Game Adaptation Needs “As Many A-Listers As Possible” So They Can All “Get Killed Violently Immediately,” Says Developer

Video game adaptations have been around for decades, to some degree, but have been on the rise in recent years. The most award-winning video game adaptations tend to be in the TV sector, with The Last of Us being the most prominent game adaptation in recent years. The Last of Us‘ successful run was followed by another post-apocalyptic game adaptation with Prime Video’s Fallout. Though not as universally revered as The Last of Us, Fallout went on to be nominated for multiple Emmys, and Fallout season 2 is now in development.

On the other hand, film adaptations of video games have had low success rates overall. Audience successes like Sonic the Hedgehog 3 are the exception, not the rule; for every well-liked video game adaptation, there are about 10 despised ones. The Resident Evil live-action movie series was a great example of a video game series that was consistently adapted but just as constantly hated. Other adaptations like Warcraft and Uncharted have not sat well with audiences. A new adaptation of a major game is coming soon, and the game developer has a unique idea for its casting.

The Helldivers 2 Game Developer Wants The Movie To Kill Off A Slew Of A-List Stars

Shams Jorjani Wants “As Many A-List Actors As Possible”

Arrowhead CEO Shams Jorjani has a unique idea for the cast of the Helldivers 2 movie adaptation. Arrowhead Game Studios is the Swedish video game developer behind Helldivers and its acclaimed 2024 sequel Helldivers 2. The sequel game is a third-person shooter that follows an elite group called the Helldivers who are tasked with saving humanity from various threats. After a critically acclaimed release, a Helldivers 2 movie adaptation was announced at the beginning of this year. Cast and crew information for the film is still under wraps.

As revealed by Videogamer, Jorjani has an interesting take on how the Helldivers 2 movie should be cast. The developer took to the Helldivers official Discord server to respond to fans concerns about the potential casting of Chris Pratt in the movie. While Jorjani would not necessarily be opposed to casting Pratt, he ᴀssured fans that his plan for casting A-list stars in Helldivers 2 is not as simple as it seems. The developer would want to quickly kill off any A-listers that were cast in the movie. Check out Jorjani’s quote below:

“We’re all hoping for as many A-List actors as possible. As long as they all get killed violently immediately.”

Our Take On This Helldivers 2 Casting Idea

This Would Still Take A Big Budget

While this A-list casting chaos is certainly an amusing idea, it is probably unrealistic for the Helldivers 2 movie. Even having a big-name actor appear for a few minutes on screen can be costly for studios. While Sony has a stronghold in the film and gaming industry, there has never been an Arrowhead adaptation before, which might make the studio more hesitant to sink a mᴀssive budget into the Helldivers 2 movie. This would complicate the plans to have “as many A-list actors as possible,” but perhaps casting—and violently murdering—Pratt on screen is something Sony could swing.
