When Every Song On The Back In Action Soundtrack Plays In The Movie

Here Is A Full Breakdown Of The Songs

“Doo Wop (That Thing)” by Lauryn Hill – The first song featured in Netflix’s Back in Action is Lauryn Hill’s 1998 hit “Doo Wop (That Thing). The song plays during Back in Action‘s opening scene, which takes place 15 years before the main events of the film. While the song plays, the audience is introduced to Cameron Diaz’s Emily and Jamie Foxx’s Matt, with them getting ready to go to Balthazar Gor’s party in order to pull off a spy mission.

“L-O-V-E” by Nat King Cole – Shortly after Emily and Matt arrive at Balthazar Gor’s party, they decide to head upstairs, with them secretly attempting to break into a safe in order to steal the key. Upon entering the room that the key is in, Nat King Cole’s 1965 film “L-O-V-E” plays, with it continuing to play after they are caught.

“Ain’t That a Kick in the Head?” by Dean Martin Back in Action‘s next action scene occurs shortly after Emily and Matt leave the party, and along with it comes the film’s third song. After boarding the plane, Matt and Emily soon realize that they have been set up, with the members of the flight’s crew being tasked with killing them and retrieving the key. Throughout the epic fight scene, Dean Martin’s 1960 classic “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head?” plays, scoring the plane crash and the protagonists’ subsequent escape.

“Crazy” by Doechii – Doechii’s 2022 song “Crazy” appears in Back in Action, and it stands out from the rest of the film’s soundtrack due to it being far more modern than the other songs. Doechii’s “Crazy” is the song that is played when Matt and Emily arrive at the night club to retrieve their daughter, with it being difficult to hear for viewers who aren’t familiar with the song. The loud music is mixed with tons of voices and action from within the club, with the song making sense for the club’s youthful attendees.

“Love T.K.O.” by Teddy Pendergrᴀss – The next song that appears in Back in Action is Teddy Pendergrᴀss’ 1980 hit “Love T.K.O.” After Emily and Matt discuss how they miss their time as spies, it is implied that they are beginning to have Sєx, with their kids hearing noises from their room as this song plays. However, it is revealed that the two are sparring, making the song a great setup for this fighting punchline.

“Push It” by Salt-N-Pepa – The 1987 song “Push It” by Salt-N-Pepa also appears in Back in Action, with it having a diegetic occurrence in the film. Shortly after the family goes on the run, they fly out of the country. After leaving the airport, they decide to drive to a gas station in order to get food and fill the car up. On the way there, “Push It” comes on the radio, with the family singing it together. “Push It” appears again during the credits of Back in Action.

“At Last” by Etta James – After arriving at the gas station, Matt and Emily get discovered. This leads to a fight scene where the spies must utilize the gas pumps and other items to fight off their ᴀssailants. During this fight scene, Etta James’ 1960 hit “At Last” plays.

“Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag” by James Brown – The final song to appear in Back in Action is James Brown’s 1965 hit “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag.” The famous song appears during the climax of Back in Action, with it playing as Matt and Emily attempt to fight their way into Chuck’s bidding room and stop his plan.
