Colin Farrell’s Divisive Remake Of Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Getting New Streaming Home 12 Years Later

Colin Farrell’s divisive remake of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1990 classic Total Recall has found a new streaming home for February 2025. The movie, which was released in August 2012, saw Farrell in the leading role of Douglas Quaid, Schwarzenegger’s character from the original, and was directed by Underworld director Len Wiseman. The movie was a modest box office success, grossing $211 million against a budget of $125 million, but was not well received by critics, most of whom felt it lacking compared to the previous adaptation of Phillip K. Dick’s short story.

Per Hulu, Total Recall is set to drop on the streaming platform on February 1, 2025, more than 12 years after its original theatrical run. The film will be part of the streamer’s slate of movies for the month, and this follows its removal from Netflix back in August. It is unclear how long the movie is going to stay on the platform for, but this is certainly an exciting opportunity for audiences to enjoy the high-octane action spectacle.

What This Means For Total Recall‘s Modern Success

The Movie Could Enjoy A Strong Streaming Performance

Despite the divisive reception to the movie at the time, the Total Recall remake could enjoy a strong streaming performance, as stylish science-fiction action movies often represent the ultimate escapism for viewers. Whilst the film is a remake of the Schwarzenegger classic, it does contain some changes and differences, and there is no denying that the movie looks great. There is a chance that the film could work its way into the Hulu charts, especially if it enjoys a strong opening week on the platform.

Additionally, both Wiseman and Farrell have new projects that are generating significant buzz, and could serve to boost the interest in the movie.

How long the film remains on Hulu is anyone’s guess, but as an exciting new addition, hopes will be high that the movie can resonate with a new audience, and achieve success over a decade later. Often, films that have fallen into obscurity will enjoy a new lease of life when they hit streaming platforms, and while Total Recall‘s stint on Netflix might be over, Hulu represents a fresh audience, and newfound hope that the movie can excel on another platform.

Our Verdict On Why Total Recall Has Found A New Home On Hulu

Wiseman & Farrell’s New Projects Will Have Renewed Interest In Their Work

There are many reasons Total Recall could have found a new streaming home, and the fact that action sci-fi often performs well on streaming is a big part of this. Additionally, both Wiseman and Farrell have new projects that are generating significant buzz, and could serve to boost the interest in the movie. Wiseman directed the upcoming From the World of Ballerina: John Wick, whilst Farrell starred in the hit HBO series The Penguin. Both these projects will have enhanced the status of the men, and will no doubt attract more attention to Total Recall on Hulu.
