Sidney Prescott’s Scream 7 Return Can’t Ignore Sam & Tara’s Story For One Big Reason

Scream 7 is bringing Sidney Prescott back (Neve Campbell) now that Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega) are gone, but the stories of the latter two can’t be ignored for one big reason. The Scream saga has seized the rise and popularity of horror reboots and legacy sequels and made a successful comeback 11 years after the release of Scream 4. 2022’s Scream kicked off the reboot trilogy and introduced a new generation of Ghostface killers and targets, led by sisters Sam and Tara Carpenter.

Scream 2022 saw the return of Sidney, Dewey (David Arquette), and Gale (Courteney Cox) to aid Sam, Tara, and their friends during the new Woodsboro murders. Sam, Tara, their surviving friends, and Gale returned in Scream 6 to confront another Ghostface killer now in New York City, while Sidney was said to have gone to a safe place with her husband and children. Now, after Melissa Barrera’s firing and Jenna Ortega dropping out, Scream 7 is bringing Sidney back as the Final Girl, but this movie can’t ignore Sam and Tara’s story.

Sidney Prescott Needs To Learn About The Ghostface Shrine From Scream 6’s Ending

Scream 6 Made A Disturbing Reveal With The Ghostface Shrine

Scream 6 went a couple of steps further than any of the previous Scream movies by having three Ghostface killers and with the introduction of the Ghostface shrine. This time, Sam, Tara, Gale, the Meeks-Martin twins, and new friends were targeted by Detective Bailey (Dermot Mulroney), his daughter Quinn (Liana Liberato), and his son Ethan (Jack Champion), all of them revealed to be related to Scream 2022’s Richie (Jack Quaid). Scream 6 also featured the Ghostface shrine, one of the movie’s most disturbing parts.

The shrine had many pieces of evidence from the previous Ghostface murders along with props from the many Stab movies.

The Ghostface shrine was located in an abandoned theater Gale found while investigating the new murders. The shrine had many pieces of evidence from the previous Ghostface murders along with props from the many Stab movies, Scream’s movie saga within the movies. Given Bailey’s job as a detective, it wasn’t hard for him to put all these items and props together, but it was disturbing nonetheless, as he even had the robes, masks, and knives used by the previous Ghostface killers.

It’s understood that the shrine was taken down after the end of Scream 6 as the police arrived at the theater, but Scream 7 can’t ignore it. Sidney is linked to most of the Ghostface killers in the Scream movie saga, and as such, the shrine told the darkest parts of her story. It’s even more important for Sidney to learn about it if her husband, Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey), is still a detective, so there’s really no way in which the Ghostface shrine shouldn’t be brought to her attention.

How Scream 7 Can Catch Sidney Up With Sam & Tara

Sidney Needs To Learn A Couple Of Things About Scream 6

Plot details about Scream 7 are still unknown, so it’s unclear how Sam and Tara’s absences will be addressed – however, that doesn’t mean Sidney can’t be aware of the events of Scream 6. It all points to Scream 7 having a time jump so it can focus on Sidney’s family, as by the time of the events of Scream 2022, her kids were still very young. Even then, Scream 7 has to make Sidney catch up with what happened to Sam and Tara, simply because they were the last ones to face a Ghostface killer (well, more like three).

Scream 7 has to keep some continuity with them.

Despite not having the Final Girls from the previous two movies, Scream 7 has to keep some continuity with them. To achieve this, Sidney has to learn what happened in Scream 6 and to Sam and Tara, through which Scream 7 could also address the sisters’ absence. This doesn’t mean that Sam and Tara’s absence has to be a main point in Scream 7 and Sidney’s story, but catching up can be useful for Sidney’s story and her confrontation with the new Ghostface killer.

Scream 7 Can’t Completely Move On From Sam & Tara (Even If They Aren’t In It)

Sam & Tara Will Still Be Big Presences In Scream 7

Because of Sam and Tara’s roles in the first two Scream reboot movies, Scream 7 can’t completely move on from them. Just like the events of Scream 2022 had an impact on Scream 6, the latter has to have some influence on Scream 7 to keep a certain continuity even without Sam and Tara. Scream 7 has to offer some explanation as to why Sam and Tara aren’t around and what happened to them after Scream 6, and could even solve some of the biggest questions about them, such as everything related to their mother.

It will be inevitable for Scream 7 to acknowledge Sam and Tara’s past and present, and as mentioned above, this doesn’t mean that Sidney’s story has to depend on them or involve them in any way. The Scream movie series has shown the importance of learning from the past and not ignoring it, and that’s exactly what Sidney needs to do with Sam and Tara’s story in Scream 7.
