Jennifer Lopez’s New Sports Drama Soars To Top Of Streaming Charts Just Days After Releasing

Jennifer Lopez does not have the best reputation in the film industry. Several of her acting performances have been considered abysmal, as she has been a part of some poorly received films. Most infamously this includes Gigli, a 2003 Ben Affleck movie that achieved a mere 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. Other Lopez films, such as The Boy Next Door, Feel the Noise, Jack, and The Wedding Planner have also managed to get Tomatometers that are under 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. In critics’ eyes, Lopez has had a very rotten streak.

This is not true of every Lopez movie, however, as she has been in some projects that were critical darlings. Her music documentaries are generally fairly well-received, including The Greatest Love Story Never Told, which has a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. The 1998 crime drama Out of Sight got a universally positive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. Lopez’s performance in Hustlers was also praised in 2019, and it got an 88% Tomatometer. Now, another one of Lopez’s better-reviewed projects is doing well on streaming.

Unstoppable Is At The Top Of The Prime Video Charts

Anthony Robles looking determined in Unstoppable

Unstoppable has topped the Prime Video charts. The based-on-a-true-story sports drama centers around the story of a young man, Anthony Robles, born with one leg, who becomes a wrestling champion. The film was distributed with a limited release in December before hitting Prime Video on January 16. Unstoppable received generally positive reviews, getting a 75% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes and a 92% among audiences. The film features Lopez as Anthony’s mother with a supporting cast that includes Jharrel Jerome, Bobby Cannavale, Don Cheadle, and Michael Peña.

The Prime Video charts now show that Unstoppable is also undefeated on streaming. Just four days after premiering on the platform, Unstoppable is the no. 1 film in the United States today on the streaming service, and it has been so since January 18. In order to achieve this feat, Unstoppable managed to beat out In the Land of Saints and Sinners, The Fall Guy, Tag, The Creator, The Calendar Killer, The Equalizer 2, The Equalizer, A Quiet Place: Day One, and Horrible Bosses 2.

Our Take On Unstoppable’s Prime Video Domination

It Would Have Been Interesting For Unstoppable To Release Theatrically

Unstoppable is living up to its тιтle on streaming, which makes me wonder how it would have done in a wider theatrical release. While compeтιтion from the likes of Wicked and Moana 2 likely would have prevented it from doing well at the box office back in December, the film could have had a chance if it had been released right now, in this slower January period. Even if the film will never see the glory of a great box office, it is at the very least a testament to how well one of Lopez’s films can do despite her mixed reputation.
