Sonic the Hedgehog 3
‘s digital release date has now been revealed following its successful box office run. Directed by Jeff Fowler, the third installment in the popular Sonic the Hedgehog franchise follows Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey), and Knuckles (Idris Elba) as they face off against the villainous Shadow (Keanu Reeves). Sonic the Hedgehog 3 reviews have been generally very positive from critics, and the film, which also features the return of Jim Carrey as Robotnik, has been a smash hit at the box office, grossing $422 million worldwide.
As the film remains in movie theaters, Paramount now reveals that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will release on VOD on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. There will also be the option to digitally purchase the full Sonic the Hedgehog three-movie collection. Accompanying the VOD announcement is the confirmation that the third movie will arrive on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD on April 15, 2025. There will also be two collectible steelbook editions for the 4K UHD and Blu-ray combo. Both the digital and physical media releases of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will include the following bonus features:

All the Sonic the Hedgehog movies have been major successes with audiences. The third movie, however, has been praised as the best of the franchise in many reviews, and it just recently became the highest-grossing of the three. Prior to the third film even hitting theaters, it was confirmed that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is in development with a release date set for 2027. So far, no story information for the fourth movie has been revealed, but it will presumably feature the return of the core Sonic the Hedgehog cast members. With the third film having done so well in theaters and now poised to be a hit on VOD, it’s entirely possible that the upcoming fourth movie won’t be the end of the road for the franchise.

Sonic Will Be A Big Audience Draw At Home
Exclusive theatrical windows for movies are getting shorter, except for figures like Christopher Nolan and Tom Cruise. Clearly, studios have data that suggests sending a movie to VOD after one month in theaters is the best way to maximize revenue, and this makes sense since interest in the movie won’t have substantially dipped compared to after three months in theaters.
VOD revenue is generally not made public like box office data is, but Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has surely already significantly surpᴀssed its break-even point in theaters. The film looks likely to be a big draw on home viewing platforms, with audiences evidently enjoying this take on the iconic Sega video game character.
