Charmy Bee’s Potential Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Inclusion Addressed By Game Actor (Who Also Plays Another Key Character)

As the franchise continues to expand its roster of characters, Colleen O’Shaughnessey is weighing in on Charmy Bee’s potential inclusion in a future Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s post-credits scene revealed both Metal Sonic and Amy Rose as the next core characters in the franchise, expected to be the focus of the fourth movie. However, plenty of other characters from the franchise could also appear in the future, thanks to the video game series’ lengthy roster. This includes Charmy, an excitable young bee who’s a core team member of the Chaotix, which includes Vector the Crocodile and Espio the Chameleon.

Speaking with ScreenRant for the digital release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 on December 21, O’Shaughnessey, who portrays Tails in the Sonic the Hedgehog movies and games, addressed the possibility of reprising her role as Charmy from the games in future movies. The voice actor explained how the bee has appeared in newer games more frequently, saying she’s open to the idea of returning for the role if he ever shows up in the films. Check out what O’Shaughnessey had to say below:

I mean, how cool would that be to get to have two characters? There’s been more Charmy in the games of late, so I feel like don’t count anything out. Who knows, that would be amazing. I would love it. I think that would be so very cool.

What O’Shaughnessey’s Statement Means For Charmy In Future Sonic The Hedgehog Movies

He’d Likely Show Up Alongside The Chaotix

Charmy first appeared in the 1995 spin-off game Knuckles’ Chaotix, debuting alongside the Detective Agency’s major characters. Since then, he’s continually appeared alongside Espio and Vector, acting as both a joyful supporter of the team, and an intuitive investigator. His latest mainline video game appearances include a cameo in the re-release compilation Sonic Origins, and an appearance in the remastered version of Sonic Generations. While it’s unclear if he’ll show up in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4, his appearances make him a viable candidate for future installments.

If he does show up, then he’d also have to return as part of the detective trio, since his role is defined by his placement within the Chaotix. Given O’Shaughnessey already voices Tails, it would make sense for her to return as Charmy, offering another familiar voice to portray the character. However, since the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 includes celebrity voices, namely Idris Elba as Knuckles and Keanu Reeves as Shadow, his voice could be altered as well, despite his current game actor’s openness to portraying him.

Our Take On Charmy’s Appearance In Sonic The Hedgehog Movies

It’d Make Sense For Him To Have A Familiar Voice

While Charmy could get recast if he shows up in the movies, O’Shaughnessey’s talent at bringing him to life in the games makes her a viable candidate for the character. Reprising her role wouldn’t be the first time Sonic the Hedgehog movies featured an actor playing multiple roles, with Jim Carrey’s Ivo and Gerald Robotnik in the latest movie. Even though it’s unclear when he would show up, having a familiar voice could be a good idea when the young bee debuts.
