Netflix’s New WW2 Movie Becomes Streaming Hit

Netflix‘s new World War II movie has become a big streaming hit shortly after its release in 2025. Since the 2020s, the streaming service has produced and distributed several original World War II movies. Operation Mincemeat (2021), starring Colin Firth, recounts a real British deception operation that misled Nazi Germany about the Allied invasion plans. Munich: The Edge of War (2022), starring 1917‘s George MacKay, reimagines Neville Chamberlain’s appeasement efforts through the lens of a fictional spy thriller.

Other Netflix original movies have explored the human cost of war, most prominently 2022’s German-language All Quiet on the Western Front, though set during World War I, shares many similar themes with World War II movies, portraying the brutal realities of combat. Netflix’s The Forgotten Battle (2020) also highlights the pivotal Battle of the Scheldt during World War II, offering multiple perspectives from the Dutch, German, and Allied soldiers. More recently, Tyler Perry’s The Six Triple Eight, focusing on an all-black and all-female battalion during World War II, has been a big hit for Netflix.

Netflix’s Number 24 Becomes A Streaming Hit

It Ranks 8th On Reelgood’s Movies Chart

Number 24, Netflix’s new World War II movie, has become a big streaming hit shortly after its release in 2025. Directed by John Andreas Andersen, the Norwegian-language film follows the young apprentice Gunnar Sønsteby from Rjukan who resists Nazi Germany on the day of the invasion, becoming the leader of the “Oslo-gang” and carrying out countless courageous acts of sabotage that made him Norway’s greatest war hero. The cast includes Sjur Vatne Brean, Erik Hivju, and Philip Helgar, among many more.

Now, shortly after its release, Netflix’s new World War II movie has become a streaming hit. Number 24 ranks eighth on Reelgood’s Top 10 movies on all streaming platforms for the week of January 9–15. What Number 24’s Streaming Success Means For The Movie

It’s A Hidden Gem Worth Checking Out

Sjur Vatne Brean in Number 24

As a Norwegian film, originally тιтled “Nr. 24,” Number 24 hasn’t gotten as much attention in the United States and around the globe. The film only has six reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which isn’t enough to qualify for a critical score, though they do praise its stirring and patriotic portrayal of Norway’s greatest war hero, Gunnar Sønsteby. However, the movie does have a 95% audience score with 100+ ratings, many of whom share the critics’ perspective. For those who like World War II movies, Number 24 might be a hidden gem on Netflix worth checking out.
