Back In Action 2 Needs To Fix A Huge Plot Hole That The 2025 Movie Ridiculously Ignored

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Back in Action!

2025’s Back in Action has one mᴀssive plot hole that the film ridiculously ignored, and Back in Action 2 really needs to fix this. Back in Action‘s story has already set up a sequel, with the final scene teasing what Back in Action 2 will be about if the film gets made. However, Back in Action doesn’t address one storyline that the sequel will have to cover, as the original film completely ignored it.

After successfully stopping Chuck from selling the key, Cameron Diaz’s Emily and Jamie Foxx’s Matt return home, seemingly retiring from their life of espionage once again. However, they soon find themselves called back into the mission field by Baron, who explains that Chuck’s body was never recovered. Baron tasks Emily and Matt with recruiting Emily’s father and helping the CIA tie up this loose end, setting up an exciting story for Back in Action 2.

Who Helped Emily & Matt Change Their Idenтιтies & Give The Kids Real Idenтιтies Without Being Caught?

Back In Action Never Addresses This

The biggest unanswered question by the end of Back in Action has to do with who helped Emily and Matt change their idenтιтies after their retirement. Back in Action starts off with a 15-year time jump, one that reveals that Emily and Matt have ᴀssumed civilian idenтιтies and have had two kids. Although it could be ᴀssumed that Chuck and the CIA helped the spies pull this off, Chuck later reveals that he got fired due to the CIA not knowing where Emily and Matt went, meaning that the government didn’t have track of them.

Since Emily and Matt somehow have gotten new idenтιтies while also having kids who have IDs and social security numbers, someone in the government had to be helping them. If this wasn’t the case, Chuck and the CIA could have easily located them, creating this mᴀssive plot hole. For Back in Action‘s story to be believable, Emily and Matt have to have had someone helping them, and Back in Action 2 needs to reveal who this person is.

Baron Will Likely Help Emily & Matt Get New Covers In Back In Action 2

The Film May Reveal He Was Behind Their Original Idenтιтies

Baron will most likely play a more active role in Back in Action 2, as teased by the ending of Back in Action. Since Baron is recruiting Emily and Matt once again, he will probably help the family ᴀssume new idenтιтies and return to their lives before the events of the first film. This means that this plot hole won’t be an issue in the story of Back in Action 2, even though it still is a problem with the first film.

It could simply be revealed that Baron helped Emily and Matt in the first movie, with him keeping their idenтιтies a secret from the CIA for some reason. It could also be revealed that Ginny or Emily’s father had a role in the cover-up, although Emily’s estrangement from her parents makes this unlikely. There are all kinds of possibilities, but the Back in Action sequel really needs to pick one.
