Robert Pattinson Shares A New Update On The Batman 2 & Reveals An Overlooked Problem With The Batsuit: “It’s Kind Of Strange”

With The Batman 2 eying filming later this year, Robert Pattinson shares a new update about the DC sequel while also expanding on his experience with Batsuits. The Batman 2 news has been limited since the reveal that the film is being pushed back to 2027, leaving the creative team more time to perfect the next installment. As Matt Reeves is still working on the script for the highly anticipated sequel, there has been consistent curiosity about how much information the returning actors have regarding The Batman 2.

In a new interview with Esquire, Pattinson spoke briefly about his ongoing journey with Batman, including his experience when he had to audition for the lead role in Reeves’ first movie. Pattinson also gave a new update about The Batman 2, as he stated the following:

Esquire: Are there scents you ᴀssociate with characters you’ve played?

Robert Pattinson: Definitely the scent of the cowl, with Batman – very much.

Esquire: What does that smell of?

Robert Pattinson: Well, it’s leather. But it’s also a combination – because you’re sealed in a leather mask, but you’re also extremely anxious all the time. And leather is porous, so it really takes on an emotional scent. When I did the audition for Batman I had to try on all the different cowls [from actors who’d played the role]. Even from 20 years ago, they all still had the scent of each individual actor. It’s kind of strange.

Esquire: Will Batman smell differently in The Batman: Part II?

Robert Pattinson: I hope so!

Esquire: Can you give us a word to describe it at this point?

Robert Pattinson: I haven’t seen anything yet, so I have no idea. But I think maybe… a little more iris?

What Robert Pattinson’s The Batman 2 Update Mean For The DC Sequel

Given the script for The Batman 2 is reportedly still not yet entirely finalized, it makes sense that Robert Pattinson has stated he hasn’t yet seen anything regarding the final story. With that said, it wouldn’t be shocking if Reeves had, at the very least, given Pattinson and other cast members a rough idea of the prospective storylines for their characters. That would at least give them a concept of what to expect in the story, whether that includes who is the villain in The Batman 2 or their specific character arcs.

It is also key to remember that big interviews like the one Pattinson did could have been done either weeks or a few months ago, meaning the case may be that he didn’t actually know anything about The Batman 2 at the time when it was conducted. By this point, Pattinson and Reeves could have easily had conversations about The Batman 2 story, since as of December 2024 the script was said to be in its final stages. Ultimately, even if Pattinson had known what was in store for him in The Batman 2, it’s unlikely he would have been able to disclose many details either way.

While Pattinson’s latest update about The Batman 2 may not have given too much new information, there will hopefully be more news rolling out about the sequel in the coming months. Once Reeves is finally done with The Batman 2 script, that would get them closer to finally starting casting their new characters. But for now, fans will just have to remain patient about the progression of The Batman 2.
