Where To Watch Inheritance: Showtimes & Streaming Status

Director Neil Burger’s 2025 film, Inheritance, is an exciting new addition to the spy thriller genre upon its release. Burger, who has previously helmed thrillers such as Limitless, Voyagers, and The Marsh King’s Daughter, is already a veteran at directing exciting and creative films, and Inheritance is no exception. The exciting spy movie uses an experimental style via Burger’s decision to film solely on an iPhone, which adds tension to its main character Maya’s journey, and gives audiences something extra to look forward to.

Beyond the interesting directorial style, audiences will recognize Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor as Maya. Inheritance follows the upheaval of Maya’s life when she learns that her father is a spy, and she is forced to flee across the globe and learn the family business in order to survive. Given its exciting plot and recognizable star, Inheritance could be considered one of the most anticipated movies of 2025. Luckily, the spy thriller will receive a theatrical release in January before later becoming available digitally and on streaming.

Inheritance Releases In Theaters On January 24, 2025

The Movie Will Only Be Available In Theaters At This Time

Inheritance will be distributed by IFC Films, and it will be released exclusively in theaters starting on January 24, 2025. While January 24 is the wide release date, as is common, Inheritance will also receive preview showings on Thursday, January 23 in some theaters, giving audiences extra chances to see the film. The film is R-rated, meaning that it may not be suitable for younger audiences, and has a runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes, so it may be helpful to check availability and showtimes in advance to find the best time to watch Inheritance.

When Will Inheritance Release On Streaming?

A Streaming Date Has Not Yet Been Set For Inheritance

Miramax and IFC Films have not yet stated when Inheritance will be released on streaming nor has a streaming platform been announced yet. However, looking into the history of IFC releases does give some insight into when the streaming release might happen, and recent IFC-distributed films have been released on Shudder or AMC+ depending on genre, making those the most likely places for Inheritance to appear.

While there is some variation in the time between theatrical release and streaming release for some IFC Films, in general, the turnaround is quite quick. For Late Night with the Devil, the time between its theatrical and streaming releases was only 28 days, and for Memoir of a Snail, the streaming release date was 83 days after the theatrical release, which seems standard for IFC. This makes it likely that Inheritance could begin streaming in April 2025.

When Will Inheritance Release On Digital?

Inheritance’s Digital Release Will Come Sooner Than Streaming

For movie fans who prefer watching at home to going to the theater, Inheritance‘s digital release will be the first opportunity to do so. Like streaming, IFC has not announced an official digital release date yet, but given the wait time for films like In a Violent Nature and Memoir of a Snail were only one month, Inheritance could get a digital release as early as mid-February 2025. If the film does exceptionally well in theaters, the digital release could be slightly later, but Inheritance will certainly get a digital release soon, giving audiences another chance to see the film.
