Opus Trailer: Ayo Edebiri Falls Prey To A Creepy Pop Star In New A24 Horror Movie

The first trailer for Opus has been released. The A24 horror movie follows a young writer, Ariel Ecton (Ayo Edebiri), who is invited to the compound of a reclusive pop star, Alfred Moretti (John Malkovich). What begins as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity quickly becomes sinister as Ariel spends time with Moretti and his cultish followers. Opus‘ cast also includes Yellowjackets‘ Juliette Lewis, The Last of Us‘ Murray Bartlett, and Prey‘s Amber Midthunder.

A24 has now debuted the Opus trailer. The trailer starts with word spreading that Moretti is offering “an exclusive listening experience” to one lucky winner. Despite her initial excitement about winning this opportunity, Ariel quickly realizes something is amiss when the experience begins with being greeted by an unsettling individual. The experience only becomes more unsettling from there when she is told that Moretti requires everyone in the compound to shave and as guests are watched through security cameras. Check out the trailer below:

What This Means For Opus

It Is Perfectly Unsettling

Moretti (John Malkovich) facing Ariel (Ayo Edebiri) and other characters in Opus

The Opus trailer succeeds in capturing the deeply unsettling mood of the A24 horror movie. As is the case in many of John Malkovich’s best movies, Moretti is an eccentric character, although in this case he is also a menacing individual. His followers seem to be awed by his fame and so entrenched in his cult that they are unable to question his unnerving behavior. Ariel is seemingly the only one who recognizes that something is wrong and is willing to voice her concerns.

This raises the question of why Ariel was chosen to come to Moretti’s compound in the first place. Given his celebrity status and the power he wields, Moretti does not seem like the kind of person who leaves anything to chance. He must have a reason for Ariel being the winner and the one invited to his compound. Whether Ariel can survive Moretti’s diabolical plan remains to be seen and will be at the center of the tense and thrilling story.

Our Take On The Opus Trailer

It Is Poised To Be Another Memorable A24 Horror Movie

The Opus trailer is sufficiently intriguing and makes it look like a worthy addition to A24’s impressive list of horror movies. Based on what has been teased, Malkovich’s Moretti could join the ranks of A24’s scariest villains. Moretti’s 30-year absence from the public eye, his cult, the real reason he has invited Ariel, and his unbalanced stage presence already make him feel distinct and memorable. Opus could become one of 2025’s standout horror movies when it premieres at the Sundance Film Festival and following its theatrical release on March 14.
