On March 25, 2026, at the MAGTF Training Command/Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, California, soldiers from the 1st Marine Division conducted an extremely intense and realistic platoon attack training exercise as part of the Service Level Training Exercise (SLTE).
This is a key exercise of the SLTE – a highly challenging training environment specifically designed to create truly combat-ready forces capable of operating as a fully integrated Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) across all combat domains. During the exercise, squads and platoons had to coordinate infantry, fire support, reconnaissance, and air elements to execute a rapid, overwhelming attack on a simulated target in harsh desert conditions.

The Marines continuously moved under simulated fire, exploiting the terrain, calling for fire support, and seizing positions with the highest speed and accuracy. Every tactical decision was made under real-time pressure, significantly enhancing inter-unit coordination and overall combat effectiveness.
The 1st Marine Division – one of the most elite and frequently deployed divisions of the U.S. Marine Corps – is using SLTE to test and perfect every aspect of its combat operations. From rapid movement under fire to synchronizing infantry fire with artillery and air support, each step in the platoon attack exercise contributes to transforming the Marines into a flexible, formidable force ready to face any situation on the modern battlefield.
SLTE is not just a regular training exercise. It is a “real battlefield” environment designed to produce the most capable combat units, ready for immediate deployment at any time. With the spirit of “First to Fight,” the 1st Marine Division continues to affirm its pioneering position in preparing for future missions in the Indo-Pacific region.
Every simulated firing exercise, every advance under high pressure at 29 Palms today is a solid preparation to ensure the Marines are always in a state of “Ready to Fight Tonight”—ready to fight tonight. This is how the 1st Marine Division maintains and enhances its combat strength, ensuring that when orders are given, they will always be the first, strongest, and most effective force on the battlefield.
